Black ants (in the entomology sense for you people who only speak white)

The ants are refugees. They were flooded out of their comfy homes in the ground due to all the heavy rains. You should check inside your kitchen cabinets to see if there are any pipes or wiring coming up from below and caulk any small gaps to prevent their ingress.

^^^Actually summer isn't as bad because ants move away from the house. It's during winter that they move under the house. Probably to keep dry.
