Sooo many places there, skip all the 'swap meet stores.'
Diamonds? They all sell diamonds. Despite the marketing, diamonds are a very common stone.
Shop around, price per point, inspect quality. Some sellers there really don't know shit. Don't be rushed.

Alot of places are by appointment only.....

if looking for loose diamond to build a ring around find reputable dealer...spend some time figuring out what affects the prices
good information available with the internet these days....much different 25 years ago.
|

i remember going to few places in LA....nothing that great. You might feel a little pressure to make decisions as you are driving to get there and don't want to waste any more time. if you find a good dealer close to you...they can go get what you are looking for and give you great price too-bargain with them.

Just gonna assume we all know that the value of diamonds is artificial and the cartels that control the trade limit the number of stones in the market to create that value.
If that policy ever ends, your rocks will be worth about as much as quartz.
|
|
yep...but its been pretty well controlled for lots of years.
if can invest the money....get a ring tatoo instead.....you will be better off
most people can't do that for some reason...so if getting one don't get taken.

Plus you can buy a big jumbo box of condoms when you're there!! And a couple boxes of wine
|
|
Ignore the unattractive clear diamonds--it's completely artificial--this idea that clearer is more expensive.. Colored diamonds are much more interesting and rare. Gray, blue, yellow, green

Ever seen the movie Snatch? It's about a diamond.

Believe it or not you can go to a pawnshop and get some good education on diamonds. Diamonds are priced all over the place whether it's GIA certified or not. You can even send in a non certified diamond to the GIA center to have it graded for under $200. Why go through this? You're looking at a savings of thousands for an engagement ring. There's retail prices, wholesale prices, and then there's what you should pay.

Some good advice on this blog and dealing with someone reputable is important.
Unless they are investment grade diamonds, diamonds just aren't a good investment.
You want a nice set of diamond earrings, so go with "Eye Clean", good color, with fire.... and don't pay retail!

South africa, that is de beers, made diamonds the say it with diamonds. Diamonds are forever market it is. With much a demand for diamonds they had enough competitors that they could not control latin america russia and Australia. Victim of their success in creating the demand. I think tel aviv is still a major diamond cutting center?

so i guess we can just make this a complete diamond thread...she stated wanted some diamond earrings vs the big loose stone.
so for the others that are getting the loose stone...research all this stuff. once you get something good...say 10k plus diamond?
get it appraised and have them state on the appraisal "value is based on wholesale replacement cost" otherwise insurance company will fuck you when they can
should cost a couple hundred per 10k to insure.
I am not advocating getting a ring...just not getting screwed or losing it without protection.

Rowland Heights Jewelry Mart
This place looks like a regular store but is comprised of about a dozen different vendors inside and I have done well on diamond jewelry ..........

the original credit dentist from late 80's/90's used this guy (jewels barber)...they had a little bit of money back in the day and trusted this guy solely...thankfully they introduced me to JB
this was after me going to tustin JM, downtown LA etc.
he is located behind the big newport movie theater.....not a flashy store front....got to have appt and get buzzed in. let me know he could get and show me whatever i wanted and would take usually a few days for him to have 5 or 6 stones to look at. i probably went back 4-5 times before getting the right stone. to get the same stone today would be easily 2.25 times the value(make sure properly insured)
i saw a patented design i wanted....he thought he could do it(drew it up), but i opted to have the original guy(with the patent) do the final product. the stuff he did for for that family was awesome, but i knew exactly what i wanted.
so for wholesale diamonds, great experience.
20 plus years later its so much easier to be armed with some knowledge...also using online sites to make sure prices are inline....such as bluenile and other stores. the key is wholesale!!!! stay away from store fronts...or you will be paying their rent.
over past 20 plus years wife has had at least one comment every day about the ring...i think she wanted to do something stupid or ordinary...so luckily i took charge.
having a ring was important to her....wish i would have bought 20k shares of aapl that split a few times instead back then.

Lol when I first read the blog I thought cj was going to be off the market and getting married. Then I saw it was for earrings. Whew! Now I know I can still propose, and she is cool with diamonds for downtown LA!
