I believe the going rate for such services is $200 for 30 minutes.
Remember: such services are not a necessity, but a luxury.
But some lawyers might have specials: $195 for 30 minutes.

< Had shitty parents.
It's ironic that a transsexual is usually the emotionally stable person in a family because we've all worked out our most existential issues that many people never even look at.

Has she tried contacting Legal Aid? Also, most attys will answer basic questions over the phone. Often their calls are screened by a legal secretary or assistant who are also knowledgeable. Then, there are usually payment plans if you hire an atty.
Actually, being poor or broke can be a plus in the legal system, especially with family court who has made an effort in the past years to make things understandable and accessible to everyone.
You made this blog sound like the sky is falling. Both of you relax, get your shit together and examine the options.
It's really not hard.

Shanana should start a club called Pro Bono, to get her ladies free or discounted services!

I am not a lawyer but I can tell you that when going through this type of thing both my lawyers gave a first consultation free one went for a hour and one for 30 minutes. So I would try that first.
After you get advice you can file all the paperwork in Pro Per and handle the case itself yourself. Big money issues I would hire someone.
As has been said if your friend is a lady she is in the drivers seat unless there a "other" issues the other person can prove and has to prove. Saying "What's her/his name does drugs" won't work. I got my ex to admit she had a drug problem and everything went my way after that.
Remember if the question is yes or no answer yes or no do not give more than what was asked.
Good luck. If you would like the name and number of my second lawyer send me a PM. They are in Brea.

Check out this organization. Non profit organization funded by the US government which provides free legal assistance for people who live at or below the poverty line. Family law is one of their practices and all the counseling is done by lawyers offering pro bono services.

Good luck

For the record, a "trade" with a lawyer of sexual services would not only be illegal, but violates the rules of professional conduct that lawyers must abide by. Sex with a client is strictly forbidden and usually results in disbarment.

Contact the los angeles county bar association. They should be able to help refer you to someone. These posts should tell you it may not be a good idea to get your referral from this site through this type of blog.

My ex had a looooooong record, I had none, and she still got 50/50 custody. Even when there are two moms involved, the preference still goes to the bio-mom. They say it doesn't because it's not supposed to be that way, but they lie through their fucking teeth.
A bio-mom pretty much has to be a murderer not to get at least 50/50, and she'll probably get a lot more.
Sorry to say. The system is fucked.
