• more than half of the "illegals" in the U.S. entered the country legally and then over-stayed their visas. A wall won't do anything about that

• the sections of wall we already have on the border get breached all the time. Holes in the wall, ladders and tunnels have already been used frequently. Prepare for drugs coming over by drone and catapult (not joking)

• cutting the coast guard will make us more susceptible to being breached on the coastline (obviously) and make the waters less safe for Americans

• cutting the TSA makes planes less safe for Americans

• repealing Obamacare will kill orders of magnitude more Americans than "illegals" or Muslim terrorists

• allowing mentally ill people to buy guns and canceling mental healthcare will lead to many more deaths of Americans than by "illegals."

• the cost of the wall is going to be astronomical. that's the last fucking thing I want to spend my tax dollars on. put it into healthcare, education, tax reduction or reducing the debt. anything but a stupid wall. And Mexico isn't going to pay for it.

This is government by and for the stupidest people in America. You seriously have to be a fucking moron to think that building a wall will improve anything.

I seriously haven't heard one coherent argument in favor of a single thing that Trump has ever said. It's all tag lines for uninformed voters. I disagree with a lot of Republicans and conservatives, but I understand their arguments. Nothing Trump proposes is supported by anyone who has actually studied the issues. A completely thoughtless person.

I don't think I'll sleep well until this guy is gone. Doesn't matter who you voted for - he's the president now and we're all stuck with him. 300 million people in this country, and we wind up with this guy. Unbelievable.

Illegal immigration is a problem and has been for years.

You don't hear politicians talk about the amnesty in 1986, but Regan promised to enforce our immigration laws for any new illegals that came into our country. That didn't happen.

A wall may not be the solution, but we haven't had a administration in a long time that actually is trying to do something to curb illegal entry into our country.

Allowing unrestricted entry of the disadvantaged, has and will adversely affect our country. When the time comes that we can take care of our own disadvantaged and help them find a better life, maybe then we can start helping those from other countries.

It isn't the wall that will stop illegal immigration, it will stop when our government and citizens will no longer tolerate it. Trump is the first politician I a long time that isn't so concerned about the Hispanic vote, that he actually says what he thinks.

I'm not denying that illegal immigration is a problem. However, like everything else, it's complicated and nuanced and the "solutions" have various pros and cons. One thing any thinking person should agree on is that building a wall doesn't solve the problem and creates new problems.

Beyond that, we can debate appropriate immigration policies and reasonable minds can differ.

Like everything else, the problems associated with illegal immigration are inextricably linked to foreign policy, world affairs, drug policies, the economy and many other issues. You can't try to solve one and completely ignore the others. Trump wants to cut foreign aid, which even conservative foreign policy experts will tell you is the best bang for the buck in solving international problems. If other countries prosper, fewer people will want or need to come here. Etc, etc. etc.

Unfortunately, it's much easier to get elected by ignorant voters by telling them that building a wall will solve all their problems. Blame the latest immigrants has been a successful political strategy since the late 1800s.

Ok, am I missing what this issue is all about? no one has really brought up that a wall probably isn't beneficial for businesses. What do businesses want cheap labor. Illegal immigration saves them millions of dollars. The rich get richer.

The other day a media member asked Majority leader of the Senate Mitch Mcconnell if Mexico was going to pay for the wall, he chuckled and said no.

I hope people wake up, or maybe they are already awake, and see the only people who are going to benefit from Trump's presidency is the rich..

So at what point do Trumpicans wake up, smell the coffee and realize they've been duped.
Trump can't deliver. He's a traitor and a self centered egotistical maniac.
Everything and I mean everything he is changing is only to benefit him and his cronies. Insurance companies are a cash cow. Ryan himself will benefit tremendously from stocks he owns.

To be in bed with Russia is treason. Way too many coincidences with this guy. What a hillbilly to hire his family members to help him run the country. You're all fools and you will see.

I love the taste of Anarchy, this is what I've been waiting for all these years. The meek will not survive, shit will hit the fan, unless of course Trump is outed and and humiliated as he should be. He's moving too fast without analyzing the long term affects.

15 more months to impeachment.

This country was built by immigrants... But it wasn't built by illegal immigration. No one has said there that we should stop legal immigration. To remain great, we should allow a reasonable number of those that want to legally immigrate to the US, but we should encourage the best and brightest so as to actually help out country.

The argument that these illegals help the US is a joke. No business intentionally hires them, as the government does what it usually does and that is to punish businesses caught doing so. The government itself hasn't done shit to stop or curb it up to now.

It is unfair to those that follow our laws to gain entry legally, to turn a blind eye to those that enter our country illegally.

If you are in favor of open borders with no consequences for entering our country, then push for a change on our laws. Illegal is illegal, and for dickwads like Jerry Brown to issue drivers licenses does nothing but send signals that illegal immigration is OK.

I'm just hoping that this site draws more than its share of libtards, as it's scary to see how some of you think

No - the problem is that the Right (and mostly the alt-right) has made illegal immigration and Muslim bashing into the Bogeyman. They have convinced the Trump base that this is the big problem our nation is facing. This distracts them from focusing on the much bigger, more complicated problems we have that they do not have simple solutions for (like healthcare, education, gun violence, homelessness, corporate tax loopholes, corruption/lobbying, etc.) Same strategy the Right has been using for years. They keep people focused on dumb issues that aren't the real problems but are easy for voters to understand -- like Roe v. Wade, gay marriage, etc.

Keep your eye on the ball.

Talk about naive.... These bigger problems mentioned, such as education, health care, gun violence, are all made worse because of our nations tolerant attitude toward illegal immigration. Illegal immigration is a contributing factor negatively impacting all these issues.

The biggest risk we face is the lack of assimilation by immigrants. They are using the US to advance themselves, but they hold no particular loyalty towards out country (of course some do, but they are the minority). You think I'm wrong? What do you think would happen if the US and Mexico went to war? Where would loyalties lie? Your kidding yourself of you think it would lie with the USA. All you have to do is see what side is the favorite in a Latino neighborhood between a USA vs Mexico soccer game.

We need a slower influx of immigrants so that they are forced to assimilate, and learn what being an American really is.

I'm not opposed to immigration, I'm opposed to accepting the disadvantaged rather than the best and brightest. Our country has accepted too many that put a load on our society.

We have our own disadvantaged, I'm for helping them improve their lives and circumstances

You're worried about the loyalties of illegal immigrants if we go to war with Mexico? Seriously?

Here are some things I'm more concerned about:

• we're the wealthiest country in the history of the world, and our healthcare system is ranked near the bottom of developed nations

• our public schools our under-funded

• private college tuition is about $50,000 per year and saddles people with crushing debt

• North Korea is a few years away from nuclear ICBMs that can reach the U.S.

• 12,000 gun murders and about 24,000 gun injuries per year. This is about 25x the rate of other developed countries.

But yeah - let's worry about what side the illegal immigrants choose if we go to war with Mexico.

Not to mention the fact that they are actually helpful in many ways to the economy and many businesses.

But I'm naive.

Not to mention the large shanty-towns of people - including families - sleeping in the streets, and living in cars and homeless shelters right here in SoCal. It's shameful. But let's pump up the military and build a $20billion wall. Great fucking plan.

3 things..

1). Change the law makes someone a citizen just for being born in the U.S. To a law that requires parents to be citizens first. It is a law from back in the slavery times and no one else has it.

2). Enforce deportation of any found to be illegal.

I think you will find illegals flooding out. As the chance that there is a consequence to being "illegal".. I think you would find that "illegals" would either work toward " legal". Or they would exit.

3). Change the federal income tax to Federal sales tax. Atleast if we have some "illegals" left. We can collect some tax on them from the things that buy. Even if it is just a soda at 7/11

"do you ever wonder why it's so costly?

its because liberal (and worse) indoctrination thats going in college's now,
skimming it off the top "

This literally makes no sense at all. wtf are you even talking about?
