@OP yes it's really common and can be incredibly helpful. But you're under no obligation to respond. Also, if you want to respond you don't have to provide a bunch of details that make you uncomfortable. In some cases (especially where you don't know the person who is asking), a simple response along the lines of "reliable, safe and fun" is acceptable imho

Fourth, it doesn't matter whether you share personal experiences here cause by now your pic has been splattered all over the interweb and we know most everything about you already. (We won't say anything about last Mon. in the afternoon.)

It's up to you what and how much you share with each individual. I wouldn't share much detail, other than safe or not safe, would repeat/ would not repeat , and I would share nothing with people who have no credible references in their network.
