I have been very impressed with my pixel XL. Straight up Android (none of the Verizon bloatware you can't remove) and the camera and tools are first rate.
The old Nexus 6p is also excellent (I happen to have a new one I'm selling because I bought this pixel).
Both of these phones are carrier independent so you can take it to nearly all carriers worldwide.
The iPhone is a fantastic device as well. But I like Android myself.

The Samsung S8 better be pretty impressive!

Samsung S8 and S8+ come out on Friday, Sam's Club was offering a pretty good pre order deal, including a $150 gift card and waived $30 activation fee the first three days. Don't know if you can still get that.
Samsung S7, still a great phone, might have deals with the S8 coming out, and it is much cheaper to start with. Recently Costco had it with a $50 gift card and a Samsung 360 camera.
iPhone 7 is current model with the 8 expected in the fall. Memory isn't expandable but comes in large (128 G and XL (256 G. It is much more expensive than the Samsung S7 and about even with the S8 once you add a memory card.

Take a look at the One Plus 3. It's an android phone from a small company in China. The specs are comparable if not better than the latest Samsung or Apple devices however, the cost is significantly less.
I just purchased the Limited Edition Black One Plus 3T for under 500. I buy all my phones through this company and have never had an issue with anyone of them. This is my 4th phone I've personally bought for myself and have also purchased phones for my kids. Everyone i have bought is still operational and working properly. I wont ever buy another phone from a mobile provider again.
These devices come unlocked and without any of the bullshit bloat-wear you get on your phone from Verizon, ATT, T-Mobile, etc. Best of all if you travel, you can use the device in practically every Country. Slap a SIM in and you are off. i just got back from Europe and traveled to Germany and Czech Republic and had no issues with data and text while out of the states. Obviously, that will depend on your provider and their service.
Most of their devices come with dual SIM slots so you can have two different numbers on an individual device from different carriers if you choose to.
Get bad service from one of the mobile carriers then just walk away and take you phone to a different provider. No fee's non of that crap.I was going to walk from T-Mobile when they started dicking around with my bill after i added 5 additional lines as soon as they realized, i owned all my devices they immediately changed their tune and even discounted some of my service costs on the lines.
Whether you go with this phone or not, i cannot recommend strongly enough to buy the thing outright and dont get chained to a provider for the device.
Bottom line, the quality and specs on these devices compared to the other usual suspects are equal if not head and shoulders above IMHO and for a much lower cost.
Well thats my two cents along with an additional two bits for good measure.
Best of Luck!

Disclaimer: I do not work for this company nor do i have any vested interest in it. I'm simply providing my opinion on the phone products i have purchased from them and used extensively for the last five years.
