Exit strategy

Do you have one?

No, not for getting out of HX or quitting the fun around here, but for packing up, moving away and moving on if and when disasters hit your home.

I have a lot of friends in Texas and Florida, some who have actually got nothing but what ever they could pack in the car and flee with before the storm hit. My old mentor had just finished selling his home in FL and retired to Italy before Irma devastated his area, and he is grateful to be out.

And I have dear people I know in Mexico who are safe but some of their neighbors have lost things too precious to count.

I hate to say it, but most of us are due, especially in Cali, for something bad to happen. So it got me thinking.

So....

... do you have accessible funds packed away you can access elsewhere, if need be?

... a place to go to and rebuild?

... a plan?

Time to get an exit plan if you don't already have one. You can be left with nothing quickly.

I read a prediction several years ago that there would be major earthquakes in the pacific (Japan and Indonesia), then working it's way south along the ring of fire to the area east of Australia. Then, some time later, there would be major earthquakes in South America. After that, they would work their way north up the ring of fire to Central America, and then, finally, the big one would happen in the US.

Well...

December 26, 2004 - 9.1 magnitude hits Sumatra, Indonesia (280,000 people die)
November 15, 2006 - 8.3 magnitude hits Japan
January 13, 2007 - 8.1 magnitude hits Japan
March 11, 2011 - 9.1 magnitude hits Japan (16,000 people die)
April 11, 2012 - 8.6 magnitude hits Indonesia
February 7, 2013 - 8.0 magnitude hits NE of Australia
April 1, 2014 - 8.1 magnitude hits Chile
September 16, 2015 - 8.3 magnitude hits Chile
April 16, 2016 - 7.8 magnitude hits Ecuador
September 8, 2017 - 8.1 magnitude hits Mexico
September 19, 2017 - 7.1 magnitude hits Mexico City

My typical exit strategy is to tell off my boss real loud so lots of people around hear, just as I'm walkin out the door for a one week vacation. Then mail in a letter of resignation so he/she never gets a chance to get back at me. Then I pick up the weekend paper and start lookin for a new job and live on Costco roast chicken til someone sees my potential.

Got a whole shed full of MREs

Good luck getting out of here when the freeways are collapsed and everything is leveled. Your Ohio house wont save you if you cant even get to it.

I'm starting to think our ( Southern California ) time is coming soon. We have enough food and water to survive for a month. Time to for me to get earthquake insurance.

Earthquake insurance wont help you if the damage is catastrophic.

Ask the Katrina survivors that got denied their flood insurance claims.

We will all be waiting for Federal Aid!

Thats why I have invested in MRE's and Guns n' Ammo of various kinds.

A guy that sells insurance told me that if my house is destroyed by an earthquake and I don't have earthquake insurance, burn the place since fires are covered. Not sure how well that would fare. Katrina victims didn't have flood insurance much like how most Californians don't have quake insurance.

Is it too late now for an exit strategy? At best, Tramp knows that all dirt will come out if he wins. But he didn't think he will win.

By the same token, I consulted all the partially published hazardous maps I could find. My house is high up in solid rocks. My earthquake insurance premium is so low that I think they made it up because they have to offer something to everybody by law. My strategy is to build an underground bunker to house survivors who are willing to be my sex slave for food and shelter. Though I need an off-roader to drive all the way down to Irvine and NPB for rich pickings - no houses should be able to stand the shakings there.
