Oh my

Damn! Somehow I missed that. Oh well..
That's bad ass!
Are you going to give them a serious tongue-lashing Luo?
Did they save "Wilson?"
Who gives a fuck about two clam bangers. The two dogs were thanking god they didn't have to spend another day on that boat.
Shut up Grumpo you've been dead for years. That was the report I read
+1 ^^^^^
How much longer before they would have eaten the dogs? And after they ate the first one.... do you think the 2nd one would have been able to read the writing on the wall?

Maybe a good idea to take a couple of engine repair and sail boat repair classes before the next trip. Maybe a satellite phone too.
This is absolute bullshit, there is no way with long-range EPRB's and satellite phones that anyone should be out of contact on the ocean. To rely on cell phones and handheld radios show their lack of preparedness and skill to complete such a journey.

Shit they had a year supply of rice and water
So great they had a Year's worth of food but no one thought about bringing a handheld GPS
That's just it, you're not alone on the ocean no matter how vast. Satellites cover the entire globe, including the Southern Ocean, and with in 45 minutes they have your distress call and general location. Whoever gave them advice about food should a have mentioned this to them...
I told them to take a satellite phone they mentioned it was too expensive.

handheld GPS? - why, so they can determine exactly where they are lost? (not a sailor, just dress like one every once in a while...)

They had a GPS nav system. They had plenty of food and a desalinator fresh water system. The photo shows an intact hull floating high and dry with a standing mast and a mainsail flaked properly on the boom and every indication of the boat, at least, being seaworthy and capable of continuing the voyage despite the engine not starting.
Hundreds of sailors have completed globe-circling voyages without even an engine on board, even in this current age. Google Lin & Larry Pardey and their sailboat Serrafyn.
The went through some heavy weather. In heavy weather, sediments in the bottom of the diesel tank get churned up, travel through the intake pipe and into the engine's fuel filter. Quite often, they get through the filter and clog up the injectors, rendering the engine inop'.
It's pretty simple to change filters, then bleed the injectors until clean fuel is squirting out, and you're back in biz. And every fuel tank needs to be thoroughly cleaned of sediments and debris prior to undertaking a trans-oceanic voyage. That's just one item of the many preparations that experienced and smart long-distance sailors do prior to casting off.
I've sailed a small sailboat across the Atlantic Ocean, sailed and anchored in the rivers of Europe, in Queen Charlotte Sound (Canada), Puget Sound, the Caribbean, Hawaii, Mexico, Central America, Bermuda, the Azores, the east coast of the US, the Bahamas, the British Virgin Islands, and many other locations. It's baffling to me why they needed to abandon ship, and yes, I read and listened to their explanations.
I think they were unprepared for the demands of self-sufficiency one needs to sail across oceans.

I bet no gun and fishing gear on board either. They were complaining about tiger sharks bumping up against the boat. I would have had shark meat with that rice.
Coast Guard just released a statement that they had an EPIRB on board but never activated it.
Again, poor fucking dogs for having such stupid owners.
Going out on a limb on this one... they staged it. They were safe and hiding the whole time. Trying to get their 40 minutes of fame.

BH you had better hope this wasn't a hoax!

Why shoot the messenger ?
Shoot all the news agencies .
Originally the captain said she thought they were about to die.
Her current story contradicts those statements.
I did mention her ship is called the Minnow ?
Her statement on 10/27
‘Oh god we’ve been saved.’ It was the most amazing feeling because we honestly did not believe we would survive another 24 hours in the current situation.”
Her statement today
"Appel said Tuesday that in her experience, the beacon should be used only when facing imminent physical danger and death in the next 24 hours".
