Ru's a joke, I'm tryin to be serious with Rand.
|
|
The well educated voters in Kentuckey realise there are many issues that need to be weighed when choosing a candidate. They, after careful scrutiny of all available data, choose Rand for his overall package.
|
|
Ayne Rand Paul has no package. He is weenieless maroon.
He wins with votes from white people who think that their government assistance is an entitlement they get as red blooded 'Mericun citizens. When dark skinned folks in the north get the same thing, that's communism.

actually cal gets more fed money than all other states
not percentage wise, but actual money

Most voters vote with their wallets. Especially when it comes to giving up something you're getting (Medicare, Social Security, Food assistance, etc.) (Not meaning to denigrate) these are NOT the most educated and sophisticated voters in the country. And many, if not most, probably live check-to-check.
So I'm still scratching my head.

You mean your still scratching the dirt for worms.

Trump told the poor people of Kentucky (and all the rest of us) that he would make sure **everybody** had health coverage and that it would be waaay better than Obamacare and there would not be high premiums or deductibles and he would do nothing to decrease Medicaid.
Not one of those things is true, but sadly, a lot of people believed him.
|
|
But that doesn't explain why they would vote for Paul (who advocated doing the opposite).
|
|
Cognitive dissonance - they are so poor they need govt assistance. Yet, they have been brainwashed that lassez-faire capitalism will save them and the big bad government is out to get them, especially those civil-rights-loving Yankee Democrats.
People believe ridiculous things all the time. Like "less guns = less crime". Absolutely not true. My neighborhood has LOTS of gun ownership, but violent crime is almost unheard of around here. Probably a connection. Nationally, increased gun ownership over the last 20 years has coincided with lowered homicide rates, except when you are talking gang-bangers like in Chicago.
Some people still believe the world was created in six days, despite mountains of rock-solid evidence the Earth is over 4 billion years old. Doesn't matter. Their pastor said it was six days so it must be six days!
If you look for logic in the population at large, you will not find it. Sadly.

That was evident the day trump became president dude

SWF (stupid white folk) have been voting against there own self interest for decades. Having moved to the Great White North ( although it doesn't snow much in Vancouver) it's obvious to me that much of the south and even the border states are still fighting the Civil War. Anyone that rails against the Federal government and is in the white political party has 95% chance of re-election. What I'd like to see is that Rand and the rest get everything they want for a few years.

Well Miss D, I'm Norwegian, raise by a black family in East LA.

How many of the previous posters have ever been to Kentucky? Probably none. I dont know where those government assistance numbers came from but probably as a percentage of fed tax dollars paid. Now until recently Kentucky was a pretty solid Democratic state but Obama's attack on the coal
mines has changed all that.
And....its actually not a bad state to live. You can buy a newer 4bdm 3ba house on beautiful Lake Cumberland close to the boat ramp and HOA swimming pool for under $225,000. Gas costs $1.75/gallon. The crime rate is low. The weather is not severe.
And as far as low number of college degrees well not everyone needs or should have a college degree. The value of a private college degree is vastly overrated.
So keep that in mind while sitting in your $2000/mo studio apartment in LA with grafitti covered walls and insanity traffic and crowds.

Kentucky sounds like crap

Kentucky is DR's home state

I've been to Kentucky many times and just like the rest of the south except for the rich suburbs its a shithole. Coal mining unemployment is close to 50%. Government assistance is the major industry in many small towns. Walmart, Home Depot, Amazon etc have crushed retail middle class entrepreneurship. You can pretty much dump shit anyplace you want as long as the feds don't find you. There is no significant technology companies and what little manufacturing they have is from companies fleeing unions in the north so they can pay little more than minimum wage. They do not have an engineering, math, physics, chemistry or medical school in the top 50. They hate taxes so the roads , bridges and infrastructure is crap There are some middle class jobs near Ft Campbell and other military bases in the south. Civil Service pays relatively well and has great benefits. If Kentucky had to quit sucking off the federal tit, they would be in a depression inside of a year.

I've been making the their/there typo for 50 years and I am not going to stop now. I also typo no and know but I still have a 1500 SAT, an advanced degree in Physics, thirty years in the defense industry and a card that says Vice President of a fortune 500 (emeritus).
My book on SWM will be published next year and Kentucky/West Virginia got themselves a whole chapter. What can be more stupid than a great grandfather that died of Black lung, grandfather died in a coal mining accident, father on disability and the son pining that thanks to Obama he cant find a job in the mine. Never mind the history and the current mining technique of just blowing the tops of mountains with 20% of the labor. The kid desperately wants to dig coal and blames Obama for his unemployment.
I am vacillating between SWF and SWM for the title. The women in the state seem to have somewhat higher aspirations and have an understanding of what the industry has done to them but in the main they are almost as stupid as the men.

Detroit, you may have been hit in the head by one too many stray hockey pucks...just sayin.
By the way, I have a card that says President IBM. (Ginni was handing them out left and right.)
