Any other WoT fans? Have info on the TV series? I think Sony is producing it and will be aired on Netflix. Can't wait! I've read the entire series multiple times, especially "The Gathering Storm" chapter "The Tower Shakes" when Egwene gets her Hulk on?

And yes I'm bored.

I would rather have the The Belgariad and The Malloreon by David Eddgings. WOT ranks below the Eddings series in my opinion.

I rest my case - same thing seems to be happening to martin that happened to jordan. They both got tired and/or bored with their series, thus the long periods between books, they just didn't/don't end them at a good stopping point. Or they just lose all focus or lose the story line somehow. That happened to jordan to the point that he could never figure out how wheel was supposed to end. That doesn't/didn't seem to happen with the top tier scifi/fantasy writers like Assimov, Sturgeon, Anthony etc who if they got bored with a series at least ended it at a point where things were at least kinda resolved.

Jordan died AFTER book 11!!! Martin's taken OVER 20 years to get through that 4/5's and there's a better than 50% chance that he'll go the way jordan did before he actually has finished. He's more interested in playing 'celeb' than he is in writing the thing and that tells me that he's either lost focus or is really bored with it or both. Jordan got so bored with his that he even wrote several books about completely different subjects, IIRC there were 2-3 on conan, in between WOT books. By that time jordan had completely lost track of where he wanted the WOT to go and or even how to get there.

As far as ASOIAF goes I read the first 4 and each book was worse than the previous one, with 4 being so boring I could barely get through it. That's was when I stopped reading it altogether and actually went back and re-read a bunch of Asimov's books as well as Piers Anthony, Theodore Sturgeon etc.
IMHO they're just much better writer's than martin will ever be.

^^^ Wish I had! But I figured I'd stick it out as long as they didn't get worse, unfortunately ... they got worse. Then i hit book 4 and just couldn't take it anymore.
Still can't figure out why everyone is so geeked out about them, book 4 sucked and book 3 although it was better wasn't anything special or that much better than book 4.
As far as the TV series goes after d&d got passed the source material it's pretty much sucked and now it's even worse with all the rushing to get through it. The only reason I continue to watch is just cause I'm so far into it I can't see a reason to stop. Course now that they've come out and said that the last season might not go on til '19 I might stop after this one, I've already lost interest in it and can't see waiting 2 years to see the rest, which will probably be worse than season 7's been, if that's even possible.

HBO should have attempted to make a series based on Piers Anthony's 'Xanth' novels. Much better written and are funny as well as dramatic. Or maybe Asimov's 'Foundation' series. Or Robert Asprin's 'Myth' novels. Or or or.

Lou

I keep meaning to watch this GoT but never get around to it. A game I play, other players are always talking about it in guild chat.

Gilvert33, I've read the Belgariad series as well as the one that came after that, can't remember the series name but it's the series that takes place after the Belgariad, the last book was 'The Seeress of' Kell(?)' or something like that. Also read the individual books for Belgarith and Polgara. Then of course had to read the Tamuli series (after reading the series that came before the Tamuli of course) which had Sparhawk as the protagonist/hero.
It's a good series no doubt but better than Tolkien? Not sure, Tolkien was the one that pretty much put the genre on the map. Would agree that it's better than jordan, he doesn't ramble or lose focus nor does he take any sideways trips. I think the same thing that happened to jordan happened to Terry Goodkind and his Sword of Truth series. The first book Wizard's First Rule was pretty good then they started to go down hill with The Stone of Tears and then Temple of the Winds was even worse, the last one Soul of the Fire, or something like that, I couldn't even get through the first 50 pages and just gave up. So maybe he was more like martin, in that he started out good/decent then got progressively worse.

Have you read The Magicians by Lev Grossman? It's the series that the show's based on. I read them a few years ago and thought they were a good read.

You might be right, the belgariad might have been a better tv series than GOT, if it had followed the books and if it had started with the Belgarith book first then moved on to Belgarion. Course they could also go from Belgarith's story to Polgara's then get onto the Belgariad too, that way you'd get the complete story. Would be interesting to see who they'd cast for Belgarith, Polgara, Belgarion and Cenedra as well as the rest - The Dreadful Bear, Silk, The Horse Lord, The Archer etc.

Yes I read the Terry Goodkind books. I remember that i enjoyed them. A lot of my reading I did during my time in the military so books were a escape for me. I read the Ann Rice books because a girl I was dating was into them. Another good series is the Rift War Saga by Raymond E Feist. The first 3 I liked. I read a few of the continuing saga books but have not read the last three that concludes the Rift War.

I read the Rift wars and like the way Feist writes. Also read his Sword series which is also good. You might try Gregg Bear's Infinity Concerto and Serpent Mage, just a 2 book series but I liked the story a lot. I attempted the Rice novels but couldn't get into the whole vampire thing.
