Basically
The Bowler (Pitcher) tries to knock down the wicket. The wicket is three vertical sticks with one horizontal stick sitting on them. The batter stands between the Bowler and the wicket using his bat to defend the wicket. The bowler has to throw with a stiff elbow which makes it difficult to get it past the guy with the bat. after that it gets a little hazy but I think the batter once he hits the ball can run to the other base. He is not obligated to run but that is how he scores points.he can run back and forth to score multiple points on a single swing. A single inning requires the entire (9 player) team to be put out. I think once you decide to run the fielders can throw the ball at you between bases to put you out or catch it in the air. I think you get a specific number of points if you hit the ball out of the defined area of play. A good batter can keep defending the wicket for an hour or more. Running only when tis absolutely safe to do so.
Now a GOOGLIE Bowler requires further detail....

So what's an over? And wickets (as in scoring, not the thing behind the batter).
If the batter hits a grounder and doesn't run, what then?

If you the ball out of the field to the boundary, what we would call a home run...that is a six. Also, no foul territory...

Grump you're a whole lot more messed up than I could have imagined .
Thanks all for educating me on cricket. Any more info would be great.
