Harrison Ford trying to land at John Wayne again? So he mistook the 55 for the runway...it was dark.

Scary thing was that they lost power over the Ocean, and had to set it down...

Not as intense as Sully in NYC, but to lose power in the skies and have to glide to a
landing has got to be one of the scariest experiences ever...

^^ You calculate your altitude, glide path, and really REALLY quickly you draw an imaginary circle around your position, with that circle representing the furthest you can go, trading altitude for distance.

You gotta land somewhere within that circle, and you have to make your first final approach your best, because you've got only that one chance. Me, I like golf courses for this sorta work, but the damn sand traps...

I was working in the area last night and drove by on the southbound side about 20 minutes after he landed. The ultimate case of "well there's something you don't see everyday." Really excellent bit of flying by that guy to put her down and not hit anything..

Agree Loki, damn sand traps and trees in the middle of the fairways.

I can imagine the worst part of losing power in a small plane...is the silence.

He had to go under an overpass to land.

Wonder if he was honking his horn as he was trying to land to get people to let him into traffic. F_ckin CA drivers.

Now, if he could get the engine started again, could he take off from the 55??? No big deal?
