I miss those large record stores, everything is so "bland" these days.. just to corporate.
I bought a lot of records/cassettes & CD's at Tower Records, It was a great place to spend a few hours.

Tower Records was cool, to hang out at, to buy from, and as a culture standpoint. It is sad that they had to close but it was technology that did them in. I love that I can d9wnload a whole album from my phone in a couple minutes from anywhere with Wi-Fi (I am not made of data). It's like the transition from Blockbuster to Netflix. Music is just more personal so people take it harder. I will have to check this movie out, because it looks really good.
Just my 2 cents,

Damn did I have good times there.
Lots of my friends worked there in the 70s and the currency of choice to get anything you wanted had the number 714. EVERYONE was in the clouds from Cordell the manager to the cashiers.
This one english guy Bob was never alert, always charged less than what you bought and gave you the wrong change... (in your favor) every time! No wonder they had financial problems, no one kept track of anything. I saw security guards taking boxes of records out the front door!
When cassettes were starting to get popular, they had a one way mirror over the aisle where the tapes were and a security guard watching. He was passed out most of the time!
Dont even get me started about how we got credit slips to use - over and over and....
My record collection at the time filled an entire wall in my apartment!
I have a souvenir from there - a No Parking Sign I took before they demolished the place.

That was the spot alright, now it's all about being at home downloading mp3s instead of hanging out in a store with like minded people....made good connections there. I miss those days...

And now some retailers stop selling CDs.

"All Things Must Pass:The Rise and Fall of Tower Records", a documentary by Colin Hanks, son of Tom. Not full screen, with distracting stars floating around. (I cannot explain why; perhaps you youngsters can.)
