Start with Amtrak.
OC stops are Santa Ana, Anaheim, Fullerton.
Metrolink has more stops.
Find a transfer point...
Oceanside?
Carlsbad?
San Juan Capistrano?
Then go Metrolink.
Adds:
Irvine
Tustin
Orange
Gives you more choice.
Coordinating transfer could make you wait a bit.
