Nobody has the guts to say it but the problem with this country is Christianity especially White Evangelical and Roman Catholicism. ( also known as Mom and Dad). Both would allow Hitler ( but not each other) into heaven if any time before his death either:
1. Took Jesus into his heart as his personal Savior. ( Apparently getting dunked into water helps as well)
2. Go to confession, say a good act of contrition, and do your penance

Something like this for catholics. Bless me father for I have sinned...I killed 6 millions jews and by my actions or inactions I killed an other 100 millions or so... Say 10 "Our Fathers and 10 Hail Mary's or whatever.

For Evangelicals its even easier. Just be truly sorry for your sin and talk directly to God and He will forgive you.

Basically in any branch of the religion by accepting JEEZUS into your heart and being sorry for your sins makes you eligible for heaven.

...and don't get me started about the Mormons...if I could shake this caffeine habit that is by far the best religion if you're a man.

ROY MOORE for senate. He will ask God for forgiveness for being a lying creep as soon as he is elected.

My personal plan is to go back to a Catholicism on my death bed, since I already had the water sprinkled. Agnosticism is fine while healthy but why not hedge your bets !

LOL at the problem being “Christianity.”

It’s not the game.... it’s the players dumbass.

JD I am ABSOLUTELY sure some “authority figure” fingered Detroit’s ass. The verdict is still out as to whether he liked it... but feels ashamed or is just pissed because it only happened the one time.

Either way.... he is one bitter, disturbed trick.

I struggled with this too as I spent most of my life outside the church.

The love that God has for us is unconditional which is unlike love here on Earth where I love you till you piss me off or disappoint me.

For those paying attention, Church is to teach us to become better humans. Most of our laws and even our constitution originated from Judeo-Christian values.

The idea of forgiveness is also what the Church teaches. It doesn't erase the evil but it allows those that were victims of evil to move on with their life instead of destroying themselves in hate.

Don't bash the Church become some assholes decide to be flaming assholes and use the Church for cover - e.g. I'll sin 6 days out of the week and redeem myself on the 7th. These folks will always be fucked up.

People like typeA is more of a problem than the church. He is typically brainwashed and doesn't know what he is talking about.

There are powerful and great countries that are doing well without god, explicitly excluded from the state.

What we have is democracy. But some religious voting block supports a candidate that attacks democracy time and time again. Well, the church is doing better in a dictatorship as the state religion.

SixD, that is a shallow argument. Like any non-profit organization, planned parenthood for example, it is their mandate to do what they do. If you don't do it, you will not get donations and you will not exist anymore. Churches is a special case that if they don't do enough charity with their donations, they will lose their tax-exempt status, and a vast amount of their properties have to close due to maintenance and staffing course to serve their tiny parish. If only they pay property tax just like everybody else, other business would pay less.

Now in Cuba or China, you don't have the strange rule that if you manage to walk into a hospital, you live, or you die outside.

God is very fickle. It was fine for Abraham and Moses to have multiple wives, and it was okay for Saul and David to kill noncombatants to prevent them from worshiping idols. And it was okay for God to let Satan kill Job's whole family and torture Job, just so God could win a bet with Satan. Then comes Jesus and he says if you even think about sex outside of monogamous marriage you are going to hell, and you get the express ticket to the hottest part of hell if you are gay (or apparently even think about doing gay things, since thinking is the same as doing). But murder is okay, just be really sorry and ask Jesus to forgive you. Now all this is according to THE BIBLE, so it is all true at the same time. Hmmmm......

I've always been able to shut up my ultra-christian friends with a pleasant reminder that there was a heaven before the universe, a heaven before the world cooled, a heaven at the time of the dinosaurs and a heaven before the pilgrims arrived to the new world. That always brings smiles.

Then I drop the bomb. There was a heaven before the United States formed, and there will be a heaven after it falls apart. And there IS NOT a United States in heaven, just the millions of other souls you have to spend eternity with. And you would have to justify yourself to those other souls until the end of time.

Thats why I am a pagan, witch hoodoo mama, no time for organized religons,

but as Buffy St Marie says,
Though laws were carved in marble
They could not shelter men
Though altars built in parliaments
They could not order men
Police arrested Magic
And Magic went with them,
For Magic loves the hungry.

But Magic would not tarry
It moves from arm to arm
It would not stay with them
Magic is afoot
It cannot come to harm
It rests in an empty palm
It spawns in an empty mind
But Magic is no instrument
Magic is the end.

Many men drove Magic
But Magic stayed behind

Pray? What word is that?
Oh, never did that, except, if you can call it that, in front of my lottery ticket.

Why would I have ultra-Christian friends? I have no problem with religious friends though, particularly those who would sin with me and then forgive themselves.

Our little city has all the churches and cults. They would knock on doors and come back every few months. I found an effective way of encouraging them to give up on me. I would say I want to believe and I read the bible, but I couldn't get past Genesis (So unbelievably laughable). Usually, nobody takes the bait and leave me in peace for good. If some new trainees try to respond, their handler a few steps back would be very nervous - afraid of losing another trainee to Satan.

There are exceptions. I never had Mormon boys visiting me. I had a pretty Mormon girl with long blond hair visiting me over the years. She is in her early 20's but cute like a teen, thin like a model. She always dressed for church. Are you suppose to put on your best dresses? Fashionable with a country flavor. Also modest heels. When she talked, I would be fantasizing this and that, not getting a single word of what she said. The last time I saw her maybe a year ago. She told me she has moved but come back on occasion helping out knocking doors. If only she came two decades ago I would have followed her anywhere, church included.

I was surprised that a door-to-door preacher in training, a young woman, agreed with me about Genesis. They have their "better" version of the bible and will show me and discuss next time. Her handler behind her was very concerned. Later I discovered that they were Jehovah's Witnesses.
