that'd be nice, but gas is still about a dollar less in az, and even in no cal gas is about 30 cents gal cheaper

Gov. Brown calls recall of new gas tax 'un-Californian'. Gov. Jerry Brown vows to defeat the initiative that would repeal SB-1, the vehicle fee and gas tax measure signed by Brown one year ago.
fuck brown
he can't be gone too soon
If the gas tax was to be totally used for road improvement, I might be far more inclined to support it. Measure M funding in Orange County has been extremely successful and the roads and freeways in OC are far better than the neighboring counties. But the money was earmarked totally for new roads and road improvement.
We add 12 cents a gallon to the gas, an additional registration fee of $25-175 based upon vehicle value and the money can go to a wide variety of things, including the establishment of a State Transportation Inspector General (just what we need, another expensive bureaucrat)
I agree with Jazz. If all of the tax $ was going for road improvement exclusively (which is what I believe was advertised by the Governor) then I could support it, maybe. But the Daily Caller reports that the $ is being siphoned off to other pet projects. If the $ is being used for something other than wha was advertised, then I do not support it.
The article also points out we pay almost $1/gallon in taxes.
but we also goosed up the vehicle registration fee....
Most people are paying in excess of 250-300 per vehicle per year to just register it in California.
You might watch vehicles around you...more Oregon plates than ever before, since you can register a vehicle in Oregon for $86 for 2 years and you can actually pay $172 and get 4 years registration....I merely purchase the vehicle in Oregon (avoid paying sales tax on it, saving thousands), and register it for a year, set up on line registration using your email address and pay the 4 year license for less than what one year would cost here.....

Poor gas guzzling babies have to pay? Easy, stop driving so much!!
It isn't about how many miles or what type of car or gas guzzling.
The State of California is run by a bunch of tax hungry idiots who don't know when to stop spending.
We already had one of the highest gas taxes before the increase and the State squandered that money instead of using it for roads and freeways.
Now they want more, but still want to slide other crap into the legislation that takes away from money needed for the roads....
Then they will come back and slide another tax or fee into the mix when they still don't have enough.
Never do they step back and look at all the waste and terrible decisions made to spend our money.
5th largest economy in the world and we can't figure out how to keep this state afloat.....sad.
Time to send a message.....stop spending since we are not giving you any more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have an urban sprawl called LA and have NO mass transportation system that helps the majority of workers. Housing prices are shooting through the roof so more and more workers have to live farther from their jobs so they can afford their home or apartment.
The Democratic run State then raises the gas cost to screw most workers.....yep, the Democratic party is definitely for the worker....
We need to get rid of the Browndoggle high speed train project. That's where are tax dollars go. Gas is cheaper in Hawaii right now.
I agree that California has become a tax-and-spend state, with minimal fiscal responsibility. The comments here show that it is not just a matter of 'they don't want to pay taxes'. We want the money to go where it is promised. That is not cheap or greedy; it is just reasonable.
California is an example of what happens when one party controls both houses with super-majorities. The urban populations in LA and SF basically run the state, and run right over the rest of us. They can go as extreme as they want, and that is not healthy for a good balance.
However, I do also think Californians are CRAZY wasteful on gas. The number of huge pickups and big SUVs that people use for daily commutes that they could do in a Honda civic!
Plus, the roads just get more, and more, and more crowded. There are too many places where you have to wait in line for 15 or 20 minutes at a freeway on-ramp, just to get on.

Starve the Beast. Vote to repeal the gas tax. It's the only way to get the folks in Sacramento to prioritize as opposed to funding everything under the sun as they try to do now.
oh brown...the color of dogshit! he cant go fast enough. bring back the governator! t's CRAZY to tax on mileage because like someone else says, it's too damn expensive to live in the city. People have to buy homes out in the boonies to afford it.
The tax and spend mentality in Sacramento just has to stop. We are even worse than the tax and spend in Washington DC.
I don't know about the companies most of you work, but in most of private industry, we do zero based budgeting each year. Every expenditure needs to be justified....don't just take last year's budget, add 10% and shove it through.
There are so many millions of dollars dropping into black holes and most of our politicians don't even know if the money is spent where it should. We just hire more bureaucrats to moderate the money and they build their own empires.....
Hire a team of top flight analysts and financial experts and put them on commission....every dollar of waste and corruption they identify that we can eliminate from the budget, they get a percentage.
Make every program that is established fully accountable for the RESULTS that are expected. They don't achieve the results expected, their funding is reduced and then eliminated. That is what happens in the real world of business. Why do we run our government differently?
So just send your bank account number to the Dems in Sacramento and let them clean YOUR ass out......
You don't see these people are totally off the rails.....
Spend, spend, spend and tax, tax, tax.....
If you think the Dems are doing such a great job in this state, just give them all your money and let them take care of you....LOL.
picrouge...
Do you ever ask yourself why California is one the most highly taxed States in the country? Does it really cost that much more per capita to run this state compared to Florida, Texas, or other states?
We have a super majority of Democrats so there are NO checks and balances....quite honestly, Jerry Brown has tried to rein in the crazies in Sacramento, so when we get an even more fiscally left wing Governor, I am sure the spending and taxing will get worse.
Lol...
and thanks to Trumpet, gas rates will go even higher, actually, they're already are.
What is this, we're thanking or blaming presidents for mundane shit now. I want to thank President Trump for allowing Nike to deliver my LunarGlides in excellent condition and with colors so vibrant you're compelled to play some Abstract aka Q-Tip.
I want blame President Trump for my cold...he shoulda shut that damn window like a told him to.
Now if we can repeal the stupid plastic bag ban too, we might be onto something.
^^^Can't wait for the plastic straw ban. Sleepy will probably wake up for that one.
either way, you gonna pay. Welcome to Kalifornia
If Red Bs had his way we would all stay home and never work. Those tax increases sure help the poor people out in California.
artnjazz.....
The current Federal gas tax is 18.4 and will go up to 28.4
California's gas and excise taxes will be 58.3 as of July 2019.
So I think the problem is the State not the Feds that are responsible for us having a top 3 gas tax in the U.S.
Some knowledge for you Jazz51:
In 2017, the Tax Foundation rated the following States as the top 7 highest gas rates.
1. PA 58.20 cents
2. WA 49.42 cents
3. HI 44.39 cents
4. NY 43.88 cents
5. MI 40.44 cents
6. CT 39.85 cents
7. CA 38.13 cents
See, there are other states with higher gas prices, and thanks to Trumpet, they will go higher this year. And about 47.3 cents in 2019, not 58 for CA. Where did you get those numbers, FOX News?
We are 2nd only to Hawaii in gas prices.
artnjazz....
Not Fox News, the San Diego Tribune newspaper....
You are talking about 2017 numbers....did you go brain dead on the new increases?
But like Debi said....don't let the facts get in the way of your narrative.....
Of course, don't forget about the vehicle registration fee increase also......from $25-175 per vehicle based upon vehicle value....
And that is on top of the $10 vehicle registration increase for CHP that went into effect 4/1/17.....
California ranks 2nd to Michigan in the cost of vehicle ownership over a 3 year time frame.
And I don't think this ranking includes the new vehicle registration fees.
omega....just keep voting for the run away spending Democrats in this state....we need at least enough Republicans so there is not a super majority that can pass every tax increase and bill.....
So jazz, how are we/CA not staying afloat??? "Jerry Brown's Legacy: A $6.1 Billion Budget Surplus in California", from Fox business.
Why don't you CA haters leave for Texas or other states you can get cheap gas for your guzzlers?
Yes, because we are the 5th largest economy in the entire World....
We should have surplus 10 times that amount.....and quite honestly, Jerry has reined in the crazies in Sacramento quite a bit......I actually applaud him and fear the next governor who will have NO fiscal concern and that surplus will vanish....
redbull....not California haters....just dumbshit liberals who have never balanced a budget in their lives....and think they can keep squeezing blood out of the people who work for a living....
You will long for the days of gov moonbeam when newsome spends the surplus before the end of his first term. Hopefully it will take that long.
interface...that surplus will be gone in 2 years....
Can you read your own statements?? " dumbshit liberals who have never balanced a budget in their lives". So how did liberal Brown more than balance the budget????
Yea, squeezing "blood" out of hard working people? That keep buying gaz guzzler SUV, and vehicles that get less than 20mpg? Car companies getting rid of cars so they can make bigger vehicles for the obese gas guzzlers that need to drive 3 blocks to the store to get their beer.
(nothing like bare ass facts from Debi...just observing)
You didn't obviously read my comments very closely...
I said Brown has done a good job reining in the crazies in Sacto.....if most had had their way, we would have NO surplus.....and that would be sad, since we have so damn much money in this state.....our surplus should be far greater than that, but we keep giving it away and doing stupid stuff like believe there will ever be a bullet train between LA and SF. Not unless we spend a trillion dollars on it....
debi...that looks like an ass that could blow some amazing comments....
Likes the Dutch ovens ^^^ ??
Jazz, try it...pleeeeease (no, not that way. The "amazing comments way.")
Likes being crop dusted ^^
teeitup...you wouldn't know an amazing comment if one bit you in the tail feathers...since you never make them....
debi actually did her research and pointed out artnjazz was incorrect.
