Not sure how Hawaii is the mainland. Oahu doesnt even the state Capitol.
That said, if you’re going to Honolulu, I’d watch out for a black Chevy camaro and a bold looking double cab Chevy truck. Those guys Steve McGarrett and Dano are bad asses.
But seriously, not a fan of Honolulu. If you’re going, can’t miss the USS Arizona memorial or the USS Missouri tour.
Other than that? Good luck. I found it to be run down and not a lot of fun. I’m also not the late night partier so I enjoyed the other more laid back islands.

Seems North Shore but depends on you thoughts of fun.
Oahu reminds me too much of LA with Waikiki being Santa Monica...
I'm sure there are plenty of night clubs etc.. if that is what your after.

Just got back from there myself.
For restaurants I recommended a place called Lulu's. Delicious food and wonderful atmosphere.
Check out Diamond Head as well...

I was there a couple of years ago. I would recommend the following:
Punaluu Black Sand Beach. it is about a 2 hour drive south of the Kona International Airport (on southeast part of the island). Its one of the few places on earth that you can lay out on black sand.
Papakolea Green Sand Beach. I believe there are only 2 places on earth that have Green Sand. However, I would only recommend this if you are willing to do a 3-mile round trip hike. The only way you can get to this beach is doing the hike after you park your car. However, there are locals that will try and charge you 25 bucks to take you in their 4 week drive trucks. They willl do it, but since I am still young my girlfriend and I opted to do the light trail. Glad we did. You can find this beach on the most southern point of the big island. It is about a 50 minute drive away from the Black Sand Beach.
Lapakahi State Park. If you want to see the north part of the island, check out this park (about 50 minutes north of Kona international airport. They have left a village the exact way that ancient Hawaiians left it.
Pololu Valley Lookout. About 30 minutes from the lapakahi state park. An awesome lookout. And if you are willing to hike down to the beach...it really is worth it.
Overall, my opinion is to circle the entire island and see it all. Don't spend too much time on concrete.

YIkes...ignore my long post. that was for the big island. I didn't realize that you are going to Oahu.
In that case, make sure to hike Diamond Head. But get there early since they run out of parking spaces and you might have to wait.
Also, ask the locals where they go for shaved ice. I feel part of the experience is to try a shaved ice cone on a hot day.
Have fun.

Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut factory.
It's similar to another factory...and that factory was located in Germany 🇩🇪 Instead of nuts, that factory offered a variety of sweets as well as a mercurial chairman of the board.
