Yes there is, having lived near the Northern border for many years I can tell you it is a haven for illegal entry, smuggling and all kinds of crap. The northern border is so long and so confusing that in many places nobody really knows where the border is, it is almost twice as long as the border with Mexico and ten times more confusing. Organized crime has been using that border for decades because it is so lightly patrolled. Heck just the sheer number of large ships that use the great lakes for smuggling dwarfs the amount coming in from Mexico.
The only reason we choose not to protect that border more is that it is mostly white people crossing, that is slowly starting to change. As for non white people start crossing they will add more enforcement to it.
