Germany is walking down a more dangerous path, but it is really the entire EU.
The EU has to import most of it's energy and they are currently getting about 37% of their natural gas from Russia. Germany is at around 35%, but they also import 40% of their crude oil and 30% of their coal from Russia.
There is a proposed natural gas pipeline, Nord Stream that will potentially make it safer and easier to pump even more gas into Germany from Russia.....
Not the best course of action to already be dependent upon an 'enemy' for almost 40% of your energy needs and possibly moving that number even higher. All Russia has to do is shut down the pipeline and nearly half of Germany's energy goes away........
Our allies are not the sharpest tools in the shed.....

As usual there is more to this story than meets the eye, as a few business deals in the EU were dependent on the big cities getting enough energy.
Now don't forget that Russia and Putin were not so vile and aggressive that long ago, when that part of the world was more amicable.

I think a drain Russia first policy is a good one.
Putin and his friends are more interested in money right now. With an economy that isn't even as big as Canada's it is a poor and shoddy place controlled by oligarchs.

sherkahn....Russia has had the same goal for years....to get back to a geopolitical position that was held by the old Soviet Union.
He is playing nice now to help his economy, but if he ever gets their economy up to even a little less than average, he will go back to his evil ways....

Snywoody....Germany is at around 35-40% of its energy coming from Russia.....and that number will escalate significantly with the Nord Stream pipeline. So maybe Trump embellished the statistics...but what he said is dead on.
All Russia has to do with many of the EU countries is to say...fuck you and shut down the piping of natural gas. Lose 35-40% of your energy as a nation and let's see who has who by the balls....
Not a smart thing to do with a nation that has been shown NOT to be an ally.....but go ahead and continue to focus on the nit picky details and lose sight of the essence of the comment....

and that boys and girls is why Nazi Germany decided to invade Russia in the first place in WW-II. The Nazi needed to Oil in Russia and Romania. They were able to align the Romanians with Nazi Germany but in order to power the Blitzkrieg Nazi's needed the oil and gas reserves.

Germany is still moving in the wrong direction in being energy dependent upon Russia...that is the fact....whether the number is currently 40% or 60%.....both are not good.....but again,get caught up in details and not the trend.....and we will lose sight of German dependence....while you are focused on the actual percentage that will be changing quickly if the pipeline is constructed.

Germany gets 13% of its energy from Russia. Comrade Trump is merely adding to the more than 4,000 lies he has told in the last year.
The US however imports oil from Saudi Arabia, a country that attacked us on 9/11. But because Comrade Trump's friends love Saudi Arabia, he says nothing.
