Money cannot buy happiness, but it can buy a jet ski. I’ve never seen anyone unhappy on a jet ski.

In the end, I would trade all of it for the cock I had when I was twenty.

You certainly need money to pay the bills and have a little enjoyment. That need can be pretty extensive with a family, education, medical care, security for retirement, etc. For people in the bottom 80%, it takes practically all their energy and ability just to try and reach these goals, if they ever do,
But aside from those needs, I believe a life is measured in the quality of interpersonal relationships.
I doubt a person is all that much happier because they have 8 bedrooms instead of 3, or because they drive a Bentley instead of an Accord.

Say that to Steve jobs. In the end I think he said he wish he was broke.

I believe this sums up what happens in the end pretty well:Chris Farley: Right. I think we.. I think we got time for one more question. Uh.. remember when you were in The Beatles? And, um, you did that album Abbey Road, and at the very end of the song, it would.. the song goes, "And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make"? You.. you remember that?
Paul McCartney: Yes.
Chris Farley: Uh.. is that true?
Paul McCartney: Yes, Chris. In my experience, it is. I find, the more you give, the more you get.

money doesn't buy happiness but it definitely buys things that make me happy

Money can buy things that make you happy but it will never fill any void permanently, nothing will in fact. There is no be all end all to some absolute fix, just moments of satisfaction and the desire to meet that satisfaction again. Self creating those moments is definitely more lasting and often times requires work that most people see as waaay to much effort to put in. Quick fixes here and there just delay the inevitable.
I will say that knowledge plays a role in overall happiness, basically the less you know that you have/don't have relative to other people will make you better off as a person. A poor person wouldn't understand their lot if they had no or other person's possessions to see and compare to. I think that is what is truly making people depressed nowadays, that you can pick up a phone and immediately see what is going on in the world and what you are not doing or having or experiencing. Ignorance is bliss but to what end?
It's just really fucking hard to quantify emotional wealth as a measure of happiness and well being when you can see someone else with that same feeling but also in a bigger house and with a nicer car in a better area. That is some real will power and self realization to set oneself to. Whether or not it has a payoff is up to what that person is willing to believe.
