It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own self-interest. We address ourselves not to their humanity but to their self-love, and never talk to them of our own necessities, but of their advantages.

Oh Hime you were there when Adam Smith wrote the Wealth Of Nations. You were Adam Smith's proof reader. Just goes to show how fast your Alzheimer's is kicking in.
I prefer Sigmund Freud and his book “Moses and Monotheism”.
"The repressed is to be counted as belonging to the id and is subject to the same mechanisms; it is distinguished from it only in respect of its genesis. The differentiation is accomplished in the earliest period of life, while the ego is developing out of the id. At that time a portion of the contents of the id is taken into the ego and raised to the preconscious state; another portion is not affected by this translation and remains behind in the id as the unconscious proper. In the further course of the formation of the ego, however, certain psychical impressions and processes in the ego are excluded [i.e. expelled] from it by a defensive process; the characteristic of being preconscious is withdrawn from them so that they are once more reduced to being component portions of the id. Here then is the ‘repressed’ in the id."
There was this movie that came out 1987. Directed by Oliver Stone and starring Michael Douglas. In fact Douglas won his only acting statuette for his portrayal of the iconic Gordon Gekko aka GG as Bud Fox (Charlie Sheen) affectionately refers to him by in the film.
There is a well known scene, dare I say famous when Gordon Gekko, who has purchased much of the available stock in a company called Teldar Paper has some stuff to say, well he has a lot to say. At a quarterly sales shareholder meeting Gekko addresses the board in what is affectionately called the "greed is good" monologue. This what he says:
"The new law of evolution in corporate America seems to be 'survival of the unfittest'. Well in my book, you either do it right or you get eliminated. Teldar Paper is doomed to fail. Its diversification into casualty insurance has not worked. Its crown jewels are its trees, the rest is dross. Through wars, depressions, inflations and deterioration of paper money, trees have always kept their value, but Teldar is chopping them all down. Forests are perishable, forest rights are as important as human rights to this planet, and all the illusory Maginot lines, scorched earth tactics, proxy fights, poison pills, etc. that Mr. Cromwell is going to come up with to prevent people like me from buying Teldar Paper are doomed to fail because the bottom line, ladies and gentlemen, as you very well know, is the only way to stay strong is to create value, that's why you buy stock, to have it go up. If there's any other reason, I've never hear it."
@ Old Man Hime. Did you know that "Hime' is Princess in Japanese.
If you read the quote, it was about the fundamental reason as to why people do things. I think you need new Spectacles. You either have cataracts or macular degeneration if you couldn't understand a verbatim quote that I had cited the Author, Book, Chapter , Page Number and Paragraph.
If you fail to comprehend that then I got nothing for you.
I have no reason to defend or slam Mr Stone for a career in Hollywood few would even have the nerve to wish for. Why must you speak in absolutes, mister? Why cannot Wall Street be a fun movie, and Heaven and Earth be a below average movie?
Duke, if you have money in a bank. It's sleeping.
Wall street is about hostile takeovers, which is now a bit of a thing of the past. It can't all be about equities.
Kisses
And Assberry, I have the fucking book. It's college reading. The guy Adam Smith, (unlike you) was genius and ahead of his time.
If I wanted to be preached to, I would be going to Church. Stop Foisting your beliefs on me. If I choose to reject your beliefs stop trying to convert me. Do you know what kind of Website this is?
Religious liberty is the hallmark of America. If I choose to worship at the Altar of the God of Tits and Wine that is my right.
Her preaching and trying to convert others who don't share her faith is religious intolerance. She is free to spout her religious speech any time and anywhere but it does not absolve her of the consequences when her beliefs and opinions clashes with mine and the " raison d'ªtre of America.
I have every right to disagree and live my life the way I choose to live it.
You are entitled to your opinion as I am entitled to mine.
If you want to pontificate about morality, I think you are on the wrong website. Perhaps, the website Christian Mingle is a more appropriate venue for your moralizing. Again may I point out what kind of website that you are on?
I will now let Milton Freidman speak for me who is more educated to express my views.
Perhaps you are facing a level of Cognitive Dissonance which is causing your psychological discomfort?
On one hand, you like to preach but yet you continue to feed into your moral failings. Could it be deep down you know that those you model your moral pontification would not approve of what you have done in the past and currently in order to achieve your goals in life?
You are just in Denial of the fact that you are not practicing what you preach.
Again I am going to refer you to Christian Mingle and perhaps you will find a better audience.
