If you truly want border security, you have to militarize the border and build centers for hosting and processing, and not everyone gets in just because they made it to the border... Mexico needs to step up to the plate, and help people fleeing the crime and violence of Central America...

Chuck....I am pretty much ready to throw all of them out in DC and we can start over. Our politicians really don't care about the American people. All they care about is getting reelected.
I have always said, if all of the new immigrants started to vote for the Republicans, the Democrats would build a wall 100 feet high and it would be electrified to kill anyone who tries to climb it. There would be strict voter ID, and proof of address......the list would go on and on to make sure immigration was shut down....

Border fencing does work....coupled with drones, sensors, etc. illegal immigration can be slowed, not stopped. It is a complex problem and needing complex solutions, But because everyone is so caught up on the term 'wall' nothing is getting done. Trumps proposal included other funding besides the wall, but hey don't let facts get in the way of the narrative.

Border security includes much more than the 'wall' or physical barrier. He wants to add border agents to beef up the overall security. He wants to add more judges to administer the immigration cases. He wants to provide more and better shelters at the border to house the illegal immigrants and the list goes on.....but I guess he found it simpler to use the 'wall' as a battle cry.

If we are counting posts, I average about 70 per month since I joined. You are running about 72 per month, so guess you are as voluminous in comment as I. And lots of my comments are actually directed at the ladies themselves and commenting about them (nothing to do with politics).

It is not appropriate to shut down the government to pay for a wall. Now he seems to want federal workers and US taxpayers to pay for the wall. We are supposed to have checks and balances. Voters vote for Senators and Congressmen. They generally control the purse strings. Not the President. Trump was going to go along with the spending bill but some of the Fox News type got in his ear, making it a political issue. Then it became a matter of ego for trump. He can end this hostage crisis by going along with Congress on the budget bill and continuing to fight for a wall in other ways if that is what the American people and their reps want. He knows Congress will not t go along so he will have to declare an national emergency. Does not sound like much of a democracy anymore.

Previous Congresses have been willing to compromise to deal with government shutdowns. Not this one....Nancy and Chuck have dug their heels in and so has Trump. Stupid on both parts, but Trump sees that this may be the only way to get any improvements in border security. He is about fulfilling campaign promises, unlike all the rest of the politicians in our country......
Of course, the Dems are terrible deal makers....Trump is very motivated to do this, so they could get lots in return. But they are too stupid to see the leverage they have.....but they just want to deny Trump the wall, instead of moving their own agendas forward. Pretty dumb if you ask me....
