Mortgage Interest Deductions are now capped at 10,000 usd
Since most people buy homes with a mortgage and all of their net worth is tied to their homes most of what's left of the middle class are starting to see the results of the Trump Tax cuts that were passed last year.
Now that Trump has done his State of the Union we are now back to 250 point plus declines in the Dow. See you at 18,000 .

My employer waited to the last week to reduce the amount of taxes taken out of our pay last year. After doing a preview of my taxes I noticed a decrease in the amount I usually owe.

I bet a whole bunch of those people complaining were from New York, New Jersey and California.
Don't blame Trump that your state has you bent over and is screwing you every which way. Those states have high property taxes and high income taxes...yes, those are now capped. But those people should be screaming at the idiots in their state capitals who are costing them so much.
If your income tax and property taxes are $10,000 or less, you have no problems...the increase in the standard deduction really helps middle class in states that don't have such over the top taxes.

Yes, if the socialists get into office, then you will REALLY want to be concerned about your taxes.....the very wealthy (those that the idiot socialists want to tax to the hilt) will leave the country just like many French people who left France to go to England, due to the French economy.
So the government will still need money to run, and the heavy taxes will drop to those making less.....duh, when the wealthy leave, those who are still there are now considered wealthy...

I did my taxew. Fed was pretty much a wash, like it always is. No, I am not a corp so you are wrong again.
Did my state taxes. Shocker. I was worse off than last year.

Britguy is right. Mortgage interest is NOT capped. Raspberry, I don't mean to insult you, but from which lying network did you get that info saying mortgage interest is capped? or who told you? Proof these lying TV networks and Democrat leaders are misleading people.

When I was doing 2017 tax returns for clients the tax calculations for 2018 based upon applying the 2018 tax rules to the 2017 income indicated that almost all of my clients would be paying the same or less in taxes and only a very small group would be paying more taxes to the Fed.
Since some of those 2018 tax benefits have already been passed onto people via reduced withholding rates on their wages, they may have more or less of a refund on their tax returns.
I think that trend will likely be true for most Americans. Of course time will tell.

I only came onto this blog to correct raspberry's sorry ass for not knowing that mortgage interest was NOT capped at $10,000.....and then to comment that the people whining most about the tax bill probably live in the high tax states....so blame your state legislature, governor, even stupid voters for allowing them to tax you to death.

I will pay substantially less in taxes because of the increased standard deduction and the lower marginal tax rates.
My itemized deductions are way way less than the 24k standard deduction I will receive.
I bought my house 22 years ago so my property taxes are very low (thanks Prop 13), I've paid off my mortgage and all my kids have aged out. I defer much of my income or I earn my income in another state so I dont currently pay to much in California taxes.
I comply with all tax laws and I frequently get audited by the state of California.
I plan to retire in the next 2-3 years and I will permanently move out of California and just visit when the weather is shitty elsewhere.
