This argument is old and untrue. The ploy is to point to a disaster and then say 'socialism ALWAYS fails'.
Quite a few European countries have socialized democracies and are doing well over all. So it does NOT always fail.
No place is perfect, but we could definitely be doing better than having the top 10 individual Americans possess as much wealth as the bottom 70%.
Meanwhile, we cannot have affordable education and health systems? I call bullshit.

How anyone can look at Venezuela and support these ignorant Dumbocrats is a mystery to me. How does their minds work?
|

bigseeker....
Get a good education, get a good job and your employer probably will be paying all or most of your healthcare coverage.
This country provides us with the opportunity. What we do with it is up to us.
Why should someone work hard, take risks, start businesses, maybe fail at their first business, get back on their feet and earn millions supposed to support everyone else?
There are 164,000 tax payers in California who currently pay about half of all the income taxes in California. Of course, those same people are paying a boat load of Fed taxes as well. Are they already NOT paying their fair share?
When is enough???????

bigseeker...please point to some socialist countries that are economically better than the United States?
|

Let's go stand in line Sutton.....

Dirty Cat, you can get a $14/hr job at In-and-Out and because of your past experience in fast food you may be able to get $16.50/hr. WITH GOOD BENEFITS! I suggest you put on your best suit and get on down there quick. None of this Walmart low life stuff any more.

there are many types of socialist much like there are many types of conservatives. To lump it all in is irresponsible. IMO

^^^^You know if you drank a better quality tequila, you'd ingest less heavy metals. That Albertson's label crap is scrambling whatever you got upstairs.

Birch blew 'em off.

gooners....tell me which form of socialism is great and where that country is better economically than the United States....
I am not being anywhere nearly as irresponsible as those who are preaching it without telling the whole truth.
Yes, you can get 4 years of free college tuition, but guess what, you will then get to pay taxes to support the millions following you for the next 45 years of work so they can get that same free education. I bet the numbers won't work out very well for you......
|
|
Yes, burnsie...it is wealth envy. All the socialists are pissed because they weren't as successful as these highest wealth people....
Maybe instead of moaning, they should work harder, come up with some amazing new idea, patent their invention and make millions....or maybe they are just have the balls to do so.
Nobody gave me anything. I built my business from the ground and ate a lot of ramen and mac and cheese while there was little or no income.

Depends on what you mean by 'better than the United States'.
For total economic output, the US is tops, I imagine. But so what, if 90% of the people do not benefit from the increase? For that 90% the so-called 'economy' still sucks.
For most Americans, EVEN THE ONES WITH SO-CALLED GOOD JOBS, they struggle to maintain even the same standard of living, much less improve it.
US Real GDP per Capita has risen over the last 4 decades, yet real median wages have not. You don't see a problem there????
|
|
oops....
maybe they just don't have the balls to do so...

If you don't like the job you have or don't like how much you make....get another job. Maybe that means developing new skills, or taking a chance on a different industry. Nothing is keeping people back....other than themselves.
If we constantly blame others for our own weaknesses, we will never succeed.
|
|
Wages are now slowly increasing. Progressives don't understand that by constantly allowing immigrants with little or no skills to come into the country, that allows wages to be kept low. Supply and demand.....workers need to use it to THEIR benefit.
As unemployment is dropping, companies will now have to compete with each other for workers. That will drive wages up....but if a ready supply of workers who will work for low wages is imported daily, there will not be the supply and demand to push wage growth.
|
|
burnsie...you are so correct...
We have a whole bunch of lazy people who are expecting the government to bail them out for their own problems.
I love some of these millennials who get degrees in Diversity Studies, Anthropology, Religious Studies, Underwater Basket weaving, etc.and then expect they will immediately start earning millions. Wrong major choice.....means career struggles...
And they also bitch about their college loan debt. No one made them sign those loan documents....think before you choose....
|
|
Get an education or job/skill training.
Start at the bottom, show up on time.
Say hello and good morning even if you do not want to.
Participate in meetings, picnics and employee morale crap even if you do not want to.
Take a college course every few years to show that you want to improve, even if you do not want to.
As you get more experience look for another job, even if you do want to,
Soon your work place will think you are valuable member of the ""team"", even if you are not.
Throw some ""water cooler"" talk about some new opportunities with another company.
Get a raise, get more benefits.

Amen Gilbert.....
Public libraries is socialism.....so public schools are also?
Yes, we did identify issues with the well-being of our aged and there are support mechanisms for them...but don't forget that most of those people paid into those funds for their entire working careers...so can't be equated to just giving someone money for not working.
Of course, we spent a lot of that money paid in for all kinds of other stuff, and we now are burdened because we had poor planning as a government....short sighted as always.

The classic definition of socialism is when the working class owns the means of production , the factories, the banks, etc. That is not what progressives are championing. They are championing a social democracy where much of the wealth goes to programs to even out a huge disparity in wealth. Social democracies like in certain Scandinavian and other countries shift some wealth to free education, free healthcare, higher wages, family leave etc. The idea in part is those who help create value, the workers, should receive a larger share of wealth they help create. These countries are capitalist and have remained capitalist. The democratic socialists are not socialist in the real sense. They are more like Social Democrats or Roosevelt Democrats

“The United States will NEVER be a socialist country!” -President Donald J. Trump at the SOTU.

Quick question for OP. Who the fuck do you imagine is reading all your dribble? You might as well be logging all these posts in your diary.
|

OP is just lonely because he has no friends and he likes blogging in between his various shill accounts who in turn validates his points.
It's just a gigantic shell game he likes to play.

Op,
You forget your history. Venezuela was for a time a gem if the socialist ideals, until greed kicked in and the state actually stopped taking care of the people. Venezuela also suffered from a cult of personality, and when its leader passed on, the negligence and greed came oht.
Now, it’s not about switching the entire country into socialism, but implementing the programs that benefit people who work here that have been tried and tested and remain true
Like social security, medicare, and neutering all Trump followers.
It works.
