I am more commenting on the late night shows other than SNL. SNL has done this since the start of time, however, they used to hit both side equally as hard. Now they punch mostly in one direction.

I enjoy political humor when it's balanced or even 60-40. There's plenty to make fun of on both sides. SNL and others seem much more one sided than they used to be and it's just not as fun to watch for me anymore.

SNL makes fun of whoever the fuck is in power.
The only real difference between now and pre-Trump is that now is the 1st time a president has called for retribution.
What intrigues me, though, is that Trump has become (or maybe always was) the snowflake who needs a safepace that his base mocks. It takes some real cognitive gymnastics to endorse that behavior.

Yes, SNL hits those in power, but historically on both sides....come on.....Nancy Pelosi, AOC, Schumer and others on the left would be great targets...but don't see SNL hammering on them. They dabble with those on the left....but spend far more time on Trump.

When SNL first started, EVERYONE was fair game and they bashed anyone and everyone. Equal opportunity bashing and very high ratings. They were in the 13+ ratings back then.
They are now in the 5's.

They are pandering to a very liberal, small slice of the TV market. That won't get them higher ratings...they bailed on the rest of America....and it shows by their ratings.

SNL has had 3 episodes since the Democrats took control of the House 3 weeks ago.
They DID make fun of Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer last night.
I don't know about the other 2 epsiodes, though, because I don't watch the show.
To my knowledge, Chuck Schumer didn't call for retribution against SNL for spoofing his hemorrhoid situation.

Back in the era of Carson and Leno, they pulled in huge numbers. Carson did 9 million viewer, Leno consistently got 6 million. Now the three stooges added together are barely making high 7 or barely 8 million. Shows that hard left only alienates half the country and your ratings go down....duh.
They need to listen to Michael Jordan....as a business man, Jordan has refused to take highly public political stands...as he has so astutely stated...."Republicans buy shoes also".....

Or maybe the writing is bad? It's not like Letterman was renowned for his political humor.
Regardless, the larger point is that Trump is asking for a safe space because his feelings are hurt, and somehow his base incredibly continues to see him as some sort of alpha male.
And if you really believe that there should be "retribution" against the networks or that they "should be looked into" by the government, then the slogan should be MAGBA (make America Great Britain again). Next thing you know, Trump will be burning heretics at the stake.

But he shouldn't be calling for any action against the networks or the shows....they have the right to do whatever they feel...even though it costs them 40% of the audience....

Raspberry....yes, the entertainment is different, but their ratings still blow.....
That is a fact and their advertisers know it also.....you can spin until you black out, but those hosts and their shows are tanking and they don't even seem to give a shit. Leno garnered nearly as much as all three together...
Leno stopped in 2014.....I do believe the Internet was around at that time...Carson is old, Leno is current and shows that the current 3 stooges can't get an audience.
I am fine with SNL bashing Trump but just want some left bashing as well.
Holy shit, AOC. Smollett, Warren, Pelosi....damn there is some great humor there...but not covered regularly by SNL, like they would have done so in the past.

There is a reason why NBC took Jay Leno off the air for the third or Fourth time.

Didn't attack Obama very often. And I sure am not seeing a whole lot of hits against the left currently. Damn AOC, Bernie, Elizabeth, Nancy, Chuck...that is a whole lot of funny shit there...but haven't been doing much for all of those folks on a regular basis....I don't mean once, I am talking about the weekly hammering that Trump gets.
