The climate change is a gradual warming of the AVERAGE temperature all around the world. Averaged out on an annual basis, it is pretty small. But the trend has been going for decades now.
It does not mean every year is going to be really hot, consistently, year after year, in any one particular place. It is more subtle than that. But the small average increase does mean the TOTAL heat energy in the global ecosphere is increasing. This causes more and/or bigger storms. It can also change weather patterns so that places which used to get rain get less, or vice versa.
Melting ice can make the ocean a bit less salty, since the ice is frozen snow (just water, no salt) and dilutes the ocean. Changing the salt level in the water enough can change its density and that might change how the currents flow - again changing weather.
Nobody knows for sure how this climate change will wind up affecting any one spot on the planet, when all is said and done, but it is pretty darn sure that there will be significant changes, maybe some very bad ones.

There may be significant changes, with ocean levels rising several feet, flooding coastal cities. But thankfully it will after I am gone.

That we have climate change should be a given. It has clearly been going on for the entire history of the earth and will continue as long as the planet exists.
To think that humans can affect the earth’s climate is to me just preposterous. You gonna influence climate change with windmills and solar panels? Really?
The Al Gore’s of the world are liars who have discovered a scam to enrich themselves - and have been pretty successful at it.

Al Gore didn't get rich by inventing Global Warming, He got rich by inventing the internet, dummy.

"I live in Orange County and haven’t used my a/c in all of 2019."
Isn't it winter? Like when the temps. are cold?
|

Very good AI. Forgot about that. Politicians may be one of the main sources of air pollution with all their hot air.
Maybe we can start by regulating some of that.

^^^^^^^^^ Now you sound like Dianne Feinstein
|

Let's just say she was trending recently. In rejecting the Green New Deal, she told some constituents, "I’ve gotten elected, I just ran, I was elected by almost a million-vote plurality! And I know what I’m doing".
|
|
Oh I know. It's just funny that she doesn't actually give a fuck about the future of climate change because she'll be over 90 years old before her term even ends.

i think the whole global warming doomsday thing is full of shit.
Man can influence the climate to some degree but not by much. The Earth is alot more durable then people give it credit for. The only exception to this is nuclear war. That will trash the climate but outside of that I don't buy the whole doomsday scenario

1) The climate has always fluctuated since the earth had an atmosphere.
2) The only times in the past that the climate has changed this fast was when there were cataclysmic events such as massive volcanism or extremely large meteor strikes.
3) Humans have already caused well documented changes in the atmosphere when chlorofluorocarbons destroyed large parts of the ozone layer. With the cessation of the use of Freon and similar materials, some of the damage has been reversed.
4) The scientific evidence overwhelmingly supports the conclusion that most of the climate change we are seeing is caused by human activity.
5) Regardless of what humans do, the Earth will continue, albeit greatly different than it is today.
6) Combating climate change has nothing to do with saving the planet, it has to do with saving ourselves.

It's already here, slowly creeping up!

All of 2019???
As in all of January and most of February? THIS IS MIND BENDING NEWS!
|
|
The Earth will be just fine....we on the other hand are fucked. Time to get laid.
|
|
Sounds like a plan.
|
|
If there is a substantial chance that global warming is real and, in fact, caused by human activity, dare we just sit on our hands and do nothing just in case it is a hoax? It seems more prudent to get behind plans like a green new deal.

I agree!
Elect me to a position of power and I'll tax the shit out you in the name of stupid crap that I'll just pull out of my ass. Vote me, vote often.

At the end of the day, everyone who are commenting on this blog will be long dead before we see the negative effects of climate change affecting our short life spans. Barring a catastrophic event like the one that killed off the Dinosaurs climate change is gradual. Our diet wlll kill us off faster than climate change.
|
|
Agree with that!

^ didn't use his a\c, even when temps hit 60.
Humanity is saved.

You should all get together and write this stuff up in this blog and submit it to Nature or Science and show the world's scientists. I am sure your bs will convince them.

Great comment about AOC. How are the people allowing a 29 year old to lead the discussion?

Let her keep talking, she's funny.
