hi JQuest
@LittleMissAlice,
what game engine and tools are you learning to use
Unity for now
Unity is a good engine. Are you going into console, pc or mobile development.
i havent decided yet
there are pros an cons to all of them
@LittleMissAlice
I think the first thing you have to decide is whether you want to work for a studio or do your own thing as an indie developer.
yeah thats more where my head is at..
can't i do both?? lol
I think it comes down to vision. If you have an idea for a game and you think you can bring your vision to life then you should go the indie route.
But if there is a dream title that you would like to work on then the studio route would be better.
Studio would also be good to get a better understanding on how games are made and what the whole process is. But you may also be able to accomplish this if you work on a really ambitious mod
id honestly love to work in a big studio and also put a little work into a side indie project at the same time.
even if its not my game or initial idea, there are good teams working on great games that are poorly funded.
i wouldn't mind giving a helping hand when and where i can
but its a looong road ahead
Big studio's are cool but you do also have to take into account that game development as a career is a bit unstable. Depending on what you do and how successful the project is. You may find yourself moving from studio to studio every few years. And that might mean having to move long distances. You may go to work for sony,EA or activision in Socal. And then find yourself working for Ubisoft in montreal a few years later, and then you could end up working for someone like Dice or CD projekt red in Europe. So there is that too
