I am so sorry that the Statue Of Liberty stands as a humongous inconvenient truth that some of you need to surmount.

The hysteria over this is is election hype.
These families are escaping an intolerable situation... Many, but far from all deserve asylum, which is a legal entry. There have been caravans many years, with only a small number finally entering into the US. Many will settle in Mexico. We need to be prepared to process those that show up, rather than the current disaster where people may have to wait weeks to make their asylum claim at the border station (and contrast to Trump, the law, and international treaty, says you can make an asylum claim anywhere you enter the US... So a person crossing the border and asking Border Patrol for asylum is not an illegal entrant).
While we do not have to take care of everyone, we should be helping these countries improve their internal security and economies. Our in-migration from Mexico has dropped because its economy has improved to a large extent due to NAFTA and our much needed guest worker programs.. Rather than cutting off aid to these countries, we can do much better.
And remember the vast majority of illegal entrants are not border crossers... They are people over h staying their visas.

Immigrants choose the U.S. because of prosperity. If Mexico was all that, they would probably stay. Mexico has much of the same of which they are fleeing from.
