Please elaborate on that 3rd world country statement ..
Trump promised economic growth. There goes that idea. I guess theres gonna be a lot of mad hillbillies roaming around.
Looks like the only thing Trump is good at is insulting his former staff.
^^^Uhhhh, not an economic definition but we look up to countries like the Phillipines, Russia, North Korea, and Saudi Arabia. We are looked down on by countries like Germany, Canada, Japan, Great Britain.
Overall wage growth in 2018 is at 3.1%. That measure takes into account the entire strata of wage earners.....
And that is why the FED is raising interest rates they are trying to control inflation.
Income inequality is one measure that is used by economists. Although the US overall wealth and income is high, mainly a very small group of people are account for most of it. The trend is accelerating.
When all is said and done, both Parties are responsible but the Republicans are more blatant about it.
As the masses squabble about gun control, immigration, LGBT rights, and abortion the real powers (super rich) are laughing their way to the bank.
They have successfully duped the masses into thinking let them make and keep more money and they will in turn create jobs for us.

Who is more foolish? The fool that leads or those who follow the fool?
Those who endlessly whine.

Millenniums have no desire to work in the trades... It's much better going to College and coming out 50k in debt and no job or prospect of one..
I blame Al Gore for inventing the internet.

Part of the American Dream is doing better than your parent's generation.
This used to be the case but no more. The average person will not have living standards as good as their parent's.
Are there exceptions? Absolutely. But the norm is and will be a decline.
It's obvious by some of the comments how out of touch some are.
Either they are in denial, really that clueless, or just mean miserable beings.
None the less, I feel pity and sorry for them.

No one has a crystal ball OP. Will the economy come down? Absolutely, it goes in cycles.
Will it happen in 2019, I doubt it. If the FED keeps upping the interest rate, it will happen sooner than later..
^ Whining about the sky falling for years now.
No point in discussing with you.
Totally agree that there is no crystal ball and that the economy is cyclic.
The poor getting poorer. (Both relatively and absolutely)
The rich getting richer. (Same as above)
And the true middle class is shrinking.
These are not cyclic.
The US needs laws and policies to reverse this.
And NO! That does not mean entitlements or free handouts.

Yesterday I received a letter explaining my COLA for 2019. I guess that put me in a higher tax bracket because with my raise then deductions I am getting the exact same amount next year that I got this year.

The good jobs are there if you are willing to work BOD.. LOL
Just like our Parents, nothing was handed to them, they had to work for it.
In my Family at least, we all did better financially than our Parents, you know why?
Because they worked their asses off and taught us well.
Either get an education in something you will be able to make money in, or learn a trade..
Pretty simply actually. So many people are just plain LAZY...
Lamar. be glad you didn't get a Pepsi...just sayin
I am SHOCKED that y'all are having an intelligent discussion on HX. Merry Christmas and keep your blows above belt.
I'd recommend a trade over a degree in some of the shit our universtites are offering nowadays.
Un-fucking believable, and to go into serious debt for?
Underwater Basketweaving was a joke back in the day, but a better option today.
A school buddy did that, but at community college.
Had me thinking my whole time in college, but I'm sure my parents couldn't front me the money.
He did well.

Angler....Amen to your comments.
I see a bunch of students taking Philosophy, Gender Studies, Art History, etc., running up $50,000-100,000+ in debt and then whining about they can't get a job to pay off their loans. They live at home, take some part time gig, maybe waiting tables and vote for the Democrats to forgive their loans and pay for their medical.
All of the generations prior have rolled up their sleeves, gotten a better education than their parents and found a niche where they can succeed. The Declaration of Independence talks about Life, Liberty and the PURSUIT of happiness....we are not guaranteed it. Nothing says that you are guaranteed an education, guaranteed health care, guaranteed a job, etc.
I love how everyone complains about rich people. Rich people were just poor people who came up with an idea, worked hard and established their business. Sitting on the sidelines complaining won't make you rich. So why should those who have worked hard, taken chances, put it all on the line etc. have to pay for the rest who didn't.
We have about 7 million open jobs in the U.S.....they are mostly open because people do not have the skills or education to apply for them. As unemployment stays low and the open jobs stays fairly high, that will drive wages up, as employers compete for the same labor pool.
BOD, keep the punches up...first warning. We deduct a point after this.
Barbie. Nobody held a gun to their heads and made them sign those loan papers. If their parents pushed them, shame on the parents if they didn't also push them to majors that will be worthwhile. I had 'heart to heart' discussions with mine and they fully understood the lay of the land for jobs in the future. I have two who do make more than I do, because they made wise choices and worked hard.
Another thing about people these days, stop blaming your Parents!! Your life starts at 18, after that, it's all on you!!
If they have the right to vote, they should have the knowledge to make their own decisions. But they are being sold a bunch of crap from politicians who want that vote. I am all for giving everything to everyone, but just tell me how we can pay for it.
And don't tell me just tax the rich. Or tax corporations. Businesses just pass along their costs to us.

Yes to your last question Blue.
I agree with helping but to some extent. But I feel like
It’s a repetitive cycle. We shouldn’t Be forced to feel guilt
and pity for not helping the homeless.
The problem with the homeless is that there are a wide array of reasons. Some of them had addiction issues, some are developmentally disabled, some just don't want to adhere to society rules, etc. So in some cases, the homeless want to be left alone, as they don't really want to be in a shelter that has curfew and rules against smoking and other uses.
Part of the homeless problem is the cost of living in California and the high social benefit levels here. People cannot afford to be on their own and they come to rely so much on the benefits. We are the welfare capital of the world.
Property values are high and that pushes up property taxes. We also have a supply and demand problem....there is more of a demand than the supply, thus landlords can charge more.
But a major issue with property landlords....they have to charge enough to build up a 'nest egg' since eviction is nearly impossible in this stupid state. We are so concerned about tenant rights that landlords can really lose out if they get a derelict tenant. Thus, fewer people even want to be landlords and they must keep themselves whole because they could have a tenant living free in their unit for up to a year.
So government regulations often drive up costs....
