When I was poor, which was basically last week, I would enjoy my day off by eating steaks at the golden corral. Chocolate fountain ftw

Good cut of beef, experienced chef, tasty side dishes.
A-5 wagyu, chef with 10 plus years of experience from places like Mastros and Ruth's Chris, Sides like Scalops Wrapped in Prosciutto or like truffle lobster mash.
I have done my one good deed for the year.
the big 3 chains, mortons, ruths chris and flemmings have all gone down hill due to corporate buyouts and the death of ruth years ago
mastros too has suffered after they sold out
the quality of all of them is nowhere what it used to be, but the prices certainly have gone up
just my take

I'll probably regret this response, but here is my 2 cents.
First off, if you really like steak, you'd better learn to make it at home. Once you get it down you will never go to a steak house again. Its a simple cost issue. If you go to a restaurant and have a $50 steak and a $50 bottle of wine, with sides you are likely going to be out $100-150 per person. The only reason I would say to do that is if you 1) don't really care too much about steak and just want to have it rarely or 2) you like people to serve you the food and you don't want to clean up. However give me a $100 and you will have yourself an awesome steak dinner wine and sides.
Costco prime Filet is I think around $25 a pound, a pack of 4 is under $50.
A Great California cab to pair with it will put you back $60-90 (examples - Caymus is about $80, Grgich $60, Turnbull $50, Heitz $50) All these wines would be $100+ at the steak house.
Veggie side or a simple tossed salad side will cost you about $10.
So you have a meal (for four) at 100-150$ that is equivalent or better than a steakhouse meal for two that will likely cost you $300+
Now the only problem is cooking the meat. Cooking the meat is all about searing, cooking and timing. You need a high heat source to sear, a steady heat source to cook and a good thermometer to tell you when you are done. A bbq works well, have the coals on one side to sear, then move to the other side to cook. A pan and oven works if you have the right equipment.
PM me for further details if you so desire.

^^^Understood. But say you're having dinner on the company and you have to chose a steakhouse. What's the deciding factor...besides how much money you can blow?
The quality of food and service.
For me then it is a question of venue/ambiance/price rather than the food.
You also have take into account your dining companion during and after the meal.
^^^OK, you Dirty Cat and Golden Corral...mmmmmmm
You have got friends in low places.

Good Steak...
