Don't worry, you can rent the right to stream whatever music Apple thinks you should listen to for the low down price of only 9.99 a month.
As far as the 7000+ songs you own Apple doesn't give a fuck because they can't turn that into a recurring revenue stream.

Not sure, size wise how big 7-8000 songs is, but a 1TB external hard drive is pretty cheap and your tunes should probably be backed up on one of those anyway. Before iTunes bites it, dump them all onto the external.

Put your music in the cloud. The Apple iCloud. You can get 2 TB for only 9.99 a month. That combined with Apple Music gets you all your and Apple's music for only 20 bucks a month!

Big Chief uses a Mac, I don't think those even come with USB ports anymore. So a thumb drive wouldn't work, unless he's into dongles.

I looked at Mac Book Pro's this weekend and the use USB-C which can adapt via dongle easily
