Just to pile on. This goes for the other 13 or so states that have passed the same legislation. Assuming they are all Blue states.
What do we care if he loses the popular vote by 10,000,000+? Why would he need even 1 vote from states whose votes will go to Dems? As long as he carries the electoral college.
I really want to know if there is a valid reason.
The only issue would be this applies to the primary election...so technically, if another Republican filed his or her tax returns they could run for President and get all of the votes from these 13 states and maybe others for the National Convention. Those states could sway the party selection for their candidate. Probably wouldn't happen, since Trump would probably still carry the other states and have enough votes, but could be an issue.
Many people only vote in presidential elections. If Trump isn't on the ballot, these people might not bother to vote. That means they wouldn't vote on local elections, propositions, etc...
OK, I want to pass a law that we get to see divorce papers and proceedings...I want to see Gavin's divorce papers and settlement. I want to see Biden and Bernie's internet activity. I want all the candidates to divulge all previous sex partners......
Where do you stop asking for information. Trump filed the mandatory financial disclosure documents.
People didn't seem to care about sex stuff with Clinton or Trump.
My point....where do we stop with asking about candidate information? Will a candidate have to disclose sexual preference? I want to know every club and organization the person belongs.....what periodicals does the person subscribe? I want all medical records of the candidate since I want to know they will be able to fulfill their term. I can see idiots in a state demanding all kinds of information. If you give a mouse a cookie......
I might expect the California law will be deemed unconstitutional, since nothing in the Constitution says anything about tax returns. As long as the candidate files all mandatory disclosures, that is all that is required.
Got it, good info. Full disclosure, I missed the part about it being the primary. But I agree, I still don't think it would matter. He would still get the Republican nod.
Wonder why none of the time typical HX whiners are commenting? Could not come up with a snide remark? Maybe they are realizing as each day passes that the Dems are more of a mess they were yesterday? Their infighting will be another downfall.
That's no problem. The out of control thuggery in our current state and local governments will be countered by people doing a WRITE IN for Donald Trump.
And does Trump really need to be on the ballot at all in California? Yes...in the primary he does!
Cause how funny would it be if he just said "screw California votes, I don't need them".
Probably exactly what he will do if that ends up being an issue. That 35% of his that are boot licking loyalists will just write him in.
I think it’s a good idea going forward though. Look at the mess we are in right now. Knowing where someone’s financial interests lie is important when it comes to giving them power over trade agreements, tariffs, embargoes, sanctions.... just my opinion.
DeLaine. Haven’t all previous Presidents owned stock or had some financial “interest” in a particular industry or company? The Clinton Foundation has received millions from foreign countries. No one made a big deal about Hillary. She released personal tax info but did she fully divulge the Foundation?
I don’t know enough about the Clinton foundation to comment on that specifically, but I was under the impression that for-profit businesses and nonprofit charities were on different footing when it came to divesting. Not to mention, aren’t nonprofit tax returns already public info? Or at least their quarterly financials are. Not quite the same as having international for profit business interests.
Just an interesting fact....the Clinton Foundation ht a 15 year LOW the year after she lost.....HMMMMM.....so I guess those contributors lost their political influence they hoped to have....
I want a box that says "no confidence" so I can say they all suck bring me new candidates.
it will never happen but I can dream can't I
Gavin will not be happy. Guess he will will ask for more taxes from us now.
you should want to know if your elected officials are beholden to other powers due to their financial interests/leverage.
It would skew the popular vote even more. Not that it matters at all though.
i don't think this is legal. the constitution sets the requirements for president, not the states. in order for the states to change this, they'd have to get together with other states and pass an amendment.
my guess is these measures will be overturned by the supreme court
but to your other question, trump didn't need california's electoral votes in 2016. he's probably not counting on them in 2020
It's funny that only blue states are passing these ridiculous laws. The one that makes me laugh the most is the popular vote winner gets all the electoral votes. That can only hurt blue states.

If you want to be the most powerful person in the world, and you don't reveal your tax returns, people have every right to assume you are hiding something shady.
I guess some people don't care Trump falsely denied having any business interests in Russia, and then licked Putin's balls in front of everybody at their summit.
No reason to suspect corruption or blackmail when a President publicly sells out his country? Really?
If Obama bowed down to Putin like that, the GOP would have impeached his black ass!.
Obama's birth certificate was an obsession with the RWNJ's but about Trump's gritty tax returns they are aIl, meh. I want to see all the tapes that were seized from Epstein's NY homes and see a list of all the people who are on those tapes. Let the chips fall as they fall. If something illegal was going on in those house, I want know, Rep or Dem. If the tapes were to take down Trump and Clinton, I would not shed a single tear for either.

Time for school OP.... This is for the PRIMARY ONLY.... Primary elections are for the individual parties delegates. When the delegates get to their conventions they can change their vote. If no one is on the ballot, or Trump has a challenger the delegates can still vote to nominate Trump...The Primary Elections have nothing to do with the General Elections..........................................
Easy kid. If you can read I admitted I did not see it was for the primary.
Why is it that everyone assumes you’re a rabid Clinton butt licker just because you hate Trump? And wtf does either Clinton have to do with anything right now lol.
I think BOTH parties are doing it wrong. Term limits for congress would fix an awful lot of these problems. Good luck getting them to vote on that law though
So far the Dems only strategy is “that guy sucks!” and if they can’t cobble together a decent cohesive message they’re going to lose this election, too. And BOTH parties are using the “let’s wait until people forget about this scandal” method of damage control.
Though admittedly that is super effective
It doesn’t hurt for either party when there’s another scandal always coming down the pipe.
I never can understand this Congressional presidency blah conversations lol. Makes me feel so stupid. If it was more like Obama was boning Hillary and they were communicating through text apps. That's why there was "classified information" then I'd understand. Or if Trump is secretly gay n doing the Russian guy but then Korea got jealous so he threatened to send a nuclear bomb meanwhile giulianni was planning to put that Spanish Chic in charge because she services the whole crew. Now that makes sense to me!
What about when the most powerful person in the world refused to provide his school records and transcripts, college writings, or even a proper birth certificate to validate his citizenship and Constitutional qualifications to run for office?
Trump's assets have all been placed in a blind trust. All elected officials and Presidents in the past have done this. And it has ALWAYS been ok until now. Why? Because Trump has a dirty mouth and he tweets a lot?
Funny how the rules suddenly changed with the democrats plans to turn America into a socialist wasteland got put on the back burner! There's nothing like an angry leftist.
yellow....nicely put.....
Let them try to undermine him winning another election. They will fail. Mostly because they are in disarray and have no clear direction.
Boy, if they are upset now, imagine what happens when he wins again. Phew. It will be fun to watch, AGAIN!!!
Liberal heads exploding all around the country.......
To yellowb2 - "blind trust"? His kids are managing those assets. How is that blind?
And I agree with DeLaine, why does everyone on this site who wants to talk about politics think one side can do no wrong and the other side can do no right? And that goes for whichever side they're talking about.
Shit, all politicians are out for themselves. The only ones I've ever felt are even close to trustworthy are local, city or county level at most. The farther they move up the dirtier they get and the more they think they can hide and get away with.
"Everyone" on this site who talks politics picks one side and that side can do no wrong is not at all correct. There are things I don't like that the Republicans (and Trump) do. (but you would have to ask the people who back the Dems if they feel the same way about thieir side).
But most of the shit the Dems do is just against the things I believe in so I bash the shit out of them. Truly well deserved in my opinion.
You are of course welcome to bash either side, agree with either side, or parts of either side. All part of having opinions and picking sides. It is the American way. Both sides feel the other side made them do it.
Just ask them. They started this so we did this. Again, the American way. Chicken and the egg dude.
We know politicians are out for themselves. Duh. But what are our options? I aint voting for you. And I am too damn lazy to run myself or put the work in to get a candidate on the ballot. So, we come on here and prop up the side we choose and bash the side we think are doing nothing positive for us.
In my very non humble opinion of course. Cause I have no humilty.
I agree with pretty much all of that, which is why I never comment on such blogs. But the 'blind trust' was to much for me.
@ Crane_op
If Clinton foundations is corrupt have you ever googled Trump charity foundation lol 😂
Trumps assets have been put in a blind trust? This blind trust is run by his kids. Blind trust, right. What a fucking joke. At least those of you who said you really don’t care what Trump does or what his business interests are were being truthful.
Geeze nobody even got my joke.
Well, I laughed. The world is ate up with silly conspiracy theories. Yours are as good as any and more entertaining.

" As long as he carries the electoral college. "
+1
No one ever asks, Who are these people who make up the Electoral College ?
We Kill the Lights and Put on a Show
It's all a lie and you'd never know.

By blind trust I meant that Trump has no involvement in decision making or day to day operations of the Trump real estate and business empire. Do his kids run it? Sure.
Obama put the millions he made writing a book about his fake dad (Frank Marshall Davis was his REAL dad) into an account and had a stock broker administer it without his input...
But the broker was one of his cronies, they were instructed to NOT invest in things Obama didn't like, such as tobacco and big oil, and on multiple occasions Obama made decisions that significantly impacted the bottom line of his stock portfolio in a positive way.
But here's the reality: Simply giving up control of the assets, in keeping with the plan that he has put into place, isn't a total panacea. Remember that the key to the success of a blind trust is that you can, as a public official, make choices that won't have the appearance of being influenced by your holdings - you don't know what those holdings are. Transferring control of the assets solves one problem (management) but doesn't change the fact that Trump still knows what he owns. He knows how his actions, as President, can affect his business interests even if he's no longer in charge. That isn't a problem you can solve by simply turning over the keys.
And, it's a problem that the American People consented to when he was elected. And honestly, the only people who really care if a foreign national is "influencing Trump" by spending $750 a night to stay at his Washington, D.C. hotel are people who would hate him even if he cured cancer, poverty, and had the entire world singing kumba-ya like a Coca-Cola commercial. They would hate him with every ounce of their soul, no matter what.
So blind trust or no blind trust..."What difference, at this point, does it make?"

Lots of communists up in here

Obama's "real" dad? lol stoooopppppppp. Do you also believe that chemtrails are real, and that lizard people... excuse me... non human entities run the gub'mint?
TheRealGuido running around acting like republicans don't kneejerk based on hyperbole and appeals to emotion as a way of being. You probably get super excited when the libs get triggered but then fucking freak out if anyone steps on a flag or thinks healthcare is a human right or the death penalty is cruel and unusual
But you know.
Definitely only the libtards gettin' all triggered.

Not only, but certainly more so.
