Bill Could Allow LA Bars To Push Last Call To 4 AM

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) A California Senate bill could allow bars in Southern California to serve alcohol until 4 a.m.

Senate Bill 58 was passed in May and is currently waiting approval by the Assembly.

If approved, local legislation would extend the sale of alcohol until 4 a.m. in L.A. bars and nightclubs, but not liquor stores.

Supporters of the bill say it could potentially provide downtown L.A. with an economic boost.

The Assembly returns from recess in a few weeks.

Not a good idea. Folks who have to drive to and from work at a very early time in the morning will be at hightened risk of drunks leaving bars. Yes. Good for the economy, but not the safety for people heading or coming home from work.

I don't like the idea. Maybe push it to 2 AM but 4 AM is a terrible idea.

Ain't gonna happen.

Any of you who have owned or worked in the bar business know full well the depth of evil that resides in that little California agency called the ABC - Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.

Those cocksuckers are a bunch of Mormons. They feel it is their job to regulate us because we are unable of controlling or regulating ourselves. Virtually every bar that opens now does not have an unconditional license, it has additional restrictions in addition to the State Law limits.

Examples: You have to have at least a 50/50 ratio of food to alcohol; no live entertainment, or if you have live entertainment you are limited to a 3 piece band; no dancing, or if you do have dancing your dance floor cannot exceed 225 square feet; no promotions, happy hours, or discounts; closing hours earlier than 2 am; no electronic games or billiards; you must have a licensed security guard after 6 pm; and on and on

It doesn't matter what the legislature passes. The ABC is the final arbiter of what can and can't be done. And they don't want people drinking, don't want people having fun, and use the idiot who is the lowest common denominator (you know the fool who walks into the parking lot at 2 am, looks at the sky, and howls at the moon as loud as he can, waking up the entire neighborhood) as the excuse as to why the "additional conditions" are necessary.

So folks, don't get your hopes up.

For all the problems we have here in California, homelessness, excessive taxation, looming pension obligations, etc. this is what they concern themselves with.....yep, let's let people drink even longer, get even drunker and then out on the roads. There will be fewer taxis and Uber/Lyft drivers out and about at 3:00 or 4:00 AM, so the drunks will have to drive.

Someone said we will then have the drunks on the road at the same time lots of the construction workers who are going to early starting job sites. Yes, another consequence.

But they want more revenue.......how about cutting back on some of the waste and corruption already in place....
