I was hypnotized once to help stop smoking. It actually worked for a few hours. The first thing I did when I came out "from under" was throw my cigs in the trash. Didn't even think about it. It was like a knee jerk reaction. I thought cigs reeked. All of that power of suggestion really worked for a few hours and then totally vaporized.
I remember being conscious, listening and paying attention to everything the therapist said.
I doubt if convincing someone to do something they really don't want to do works.

Tried it once in my very early 20's, also regarding smoking cessation. I was skeptical.
He did his thing to put me out of full consciousness, and after that his phone rang. He answered it (in the same room) and said, "it's ok. He's 'under'."
I immediately said, "no, I'm not," thinking 'what a moron.' He got all disgusted and hung up quickly. I paid and left.
Didn't work.

Actually since I’m doing the landscaping, I pretend I can’t start the mower and get guys to try at start it for me. Little do they know I’ve unplugged the spark plug and then wait till they’re all winded out from trying to start it. Then tell the to lay down and rest and that’s when I wrap them up in one of those burlap sheets and toss them in the truck
