Yet only crew members survived
The crew probably had separate sleeping quarters with access to the deck.
In case of a fire ? ^
Five of the six Crew members were sleeping above the Galley and one was below deck sleeping in the passenger bunks. The owner denied that there was no crew member on watch but I have a hard time believing the NTSB would make that up after interviewing the crew. Such a sad tragedy

Seems like they were kind of nonchalant about the trip, like maybe they've done this same dive 100 times, all these guys are experienced divers, comfortable with boats and the ocean in general, so what could go wrong on a simple overnight?
I spend time in Dana Harbor and have seen the Dana Pride depart hundreds of times with whale watchers, fishing trips, private parties etc, and they begin the safety speeches the minute they untie the boat.

And they laughed at me when I asked for a window below the water line!

5 of 6 crew members were on deck. the 6th was below and perished with the rest
one crew was below and perished with others
She was the only crew member that didn’t survive because she was sleeping in the passenger bunks below deck
When you are at sea a night watch is required and common sense safety.
The passenger sleeping area was below the galley. There was an entrance stair at the front and an emergency exit at the rear above one of the bunks. I think they did give the passengers a safety briefing but it sounds like they didn’t have the required roaming night watch. All crew members were sleeping when the fire started

Captain might see jail time

The entire crew is fucked no matter the final findings

They should swim with the fishes

Having been on that boat in the past, I know how cramped the bunk room is. There's really only the one exit. There is a small emergency hatch, but it's above a bunk and it's really only for one person at time.If the fire started in the galley area, no one from down below would be able to get out.
Before they leave the dock, they always go over the safety procedures and where life vest are etc. But this happened at the worst time with all the passengers down stairs asleep. Any other time of day, someone would've spotted it. And there was no night watch set as is required on a boat that size/type. A night watch could've spotted the fire and started putting it out before it got so bad. I'm wondering about why smoke detectors didn't go off.

Dead batteries ?? Emphasis on dead

My friend had 2 very good friends on that boat. She had just left her car at their house to come on our trip.

The 6th was the female crew member and she didn’t make it. She was below deck in the bunk area
so did the 6th crew member make it?
Not sure.... did the article say one way or the other? Not clear.

After this tragedy I'm afraid to go on an overnight tuna fishing boat (where you sleep below the deck). The trips I've been on leave around midnight and the early risers will start trolling in the early morning ... and if one of the trollers has a hookup, the boat will stop and people will then "fly line" out to the tuna pack in the hopes of a hookup. I guess I could manage 1 night w/o sleeping because I honestly doubt I would be able to sleep all nite below deck after the Conception tragedy. But then with all the snoring and farting below deck I was never able to sleep anyway !!@?!!
Hmmm ... some of the words sound a bit like a different kind of "hookup" review !!
A guy is
Out Trolling,
Gets a Hookup,
Has an Early Rise,
Does an All-Nighter

I've been on several overnight trips and it never occurred to me to locate the emergency exit in the bunk room and no one in the crew ever mentioned it to me or any other passenger as far as I know.
How do the passengers get below? Do they take a ladder or stairs.? Would this be a normal exit? But was it blocked off due to the fire.? It is amazing to me that everyone was asleep. Was the boat traveling at the time? I have been on overnight fishing boats and found it very hard to sleep. Must have been a very fast moving fire if no one had time to even yell fire from above. Due to Maritime law it might be hard for passengers relatives to collect much in damages. But there are ways around this especially if there are criminal charges I believe.

I always get a bunk as close to the engine room as possible. The sound of those engines are so tranquil to me. Like being on an aircraft, the engines make me sleep so good even though I hate flying because of the TSA.

There's a reason that there looking into criminal charges as I stated in another blog. One of the boats in the Truth Aquatics fleet caught fire late at night at it's mooring in the SB Harbor. That for was attributed to a marine radio battery charger. The entire galley and bride deck were burnt. There was no one on the boat at the time.
