Information is specific to San Diego, but the conclusion applies to anywhere:
turn your wheels if there is a noticeable incline.

For those in San Diego, story includes map of where such tickets have been issued.

Giving tickets for not "cramping" helps explains why a majority of murders in California are unsolved:

Cops dont care. They get their generous salaries and gold plated pension regardless.

I remember 10 years back an article in the Boston Globe exposing the top earning city workers as street cops that fed off the stupid city ordinance that required a cop be present at all construction sites at all times.
Of course making double overtime.
No joke top guy made over 450k.
Explains why the Big Dig took 25 years and 24 billion taxpayer dollars to finish.

I was really surprised when I came out of the Whittier Home Depot and found a ticket on my windshield. It was for having a faded month sticker on my license plate. I got a new sticker, had it signed off, went to court and paid the fine.

I don't even live in Whittier, I was driving past that Home Depot and thought it would be convenient to stop there. The sticker was legible just not reflective. Since I'm a member of AAA when I renew my tags there I always ask for a new month sticker along with the new registration. .

Lamar: if you still have the ticket, please post the Vehicle Code section that you allegedly violated.

Section 5201 (c) provides:

"(2) The installation of a license plate security cover is not a violation of this subdivision if the device does not obstruct or impair the recognition of the license plate information, including, but not limited to, the issuing state, license plate number, and registration tabs, and the cover is limited to the area directly over the top of the registration tabs. No portion of a license plate security cover shall rest over the license plate number."

Putting a protective cover over the top portion of a license plate (which I have done to reduce the chance of the tags being stolen) is not a violation. There is no qualifying language that a cover is prohibited if it reduces the amount of light the tags originally reflect.

Further:

"5204.
(a) ... a tab shall indicate the year of expiration and a tab shall indicate the month of expiration."

Section 5204 says nothing about the tags having to be reflective. A protective cover is allowed by section 5201 and may reduce the amount of reflection.

Question: did the cop who issued the ticket have less of a suntan than you do?

AAA: in my experience they only give you a new month tag if you request one; therefore having a new one each year presumably is not mandatory.
