Ashley, as you read Animal Farm realize that it was published in '45.
The western view of Russia was not as it became just a few years later.
But I swear, as I read it I was imagining '50-'60s Stalinistic characters.
Ahead of its time.

The Gulag Archipelago is one of the best books I've read and highly recommend to anyone wanting to know about what the Soviet Union did to any citizen who criticized it.

1984 was great, but I actually think that Brave New World by Aldous Huxley is much more reminiscent of where we are today. Definitely recommend it. It's not as "surface level" dystopian as Orwell's work, but it's scarier while being more subtle.
This is what was said about Orwell and Huxley's different premonitions:
"What Orwell feared were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was that there would be no reason to ban a book, for there would be no one who wanted to read one. Orwell feared those who would deprive us of information. Huxley feared those who would give us so much that we would be reduced to passivity and egotism. Orwell feared that the truth would be concealed from us. Huxley feared the truth would be drowned in a sea of irrelevance."

Hey Ashley!!
|
|
Orwell's 1984 is a description of human civilization's past, present, and future. You were born in it, are living in it now, and you will die in it.

I think ...
1984 is more like the extreme Right.
Animal Farm is more like the extreme Left.

Ashley.. you are so right about 1984 fitting this time so well as does Brave New World, Animal Farm seems more before Berlin Wall came down.
farenheit 451 is coming since this admn wants to gut dept of education by 20% who needs books if you cant read just like our "LEADER" or better yet when you have "alternative facts"
