My BMW was hit by a drunk driver back in Feb, I am dealing with the drivers insurance state farm and they are saying my car is a total loss and I will be reimbursed if i'm understanding correctly. has anyone dealt with something similar to this? I love my car and don't really know what to do right now... any suggestions?

Thank you

Your car is toast. Even if you pay to have it fixed, it will have a salvage title meaning it will basically be unsellable. Plus you don’t want to have to worry about metal fatigue or the chassis taking additional damage if in another crash. Your life isn’t worth it.

Take the money and start shopping for a new ride.

Here is another thing to consider. It is very difficult to insure a car with a salvaged title. If you decide to buy your BMW from the insurance company and get fixed up trying to find reasonably cheap car insurance on a salvaged title will be difficult but not impossible.

You need to consider the insurance expense vis a vis a used car with a clean title and an older car with a salvaged tile.

Be aware that all the German cars are expensive for parts and labor, especially Audi's. Make sure you get an extended warranty if it's a newer car, otherwise buy a Japanese car, which for women are nice and reliable.

I worked with an INS company who agreed to pay me for my car and allow me to do the repairs on a car with a small ding in the back door. In the end they lied and still reported my car as totaled. Now I have to jump through a bunch lot of hoops to try to get it registered. This all came as a shock to me when I went to pay my reg. I am totally pissed about it, but nothing I can do to undo what they did. There really is nothing wrong with the car. Unless you know what to look for you can't even see the ding.

Bottom line, now the car just sits because I haven't had the time or been able to get clear answers on what has to be done to get it back on the road. With current reg stickers.

Don't even try to keep the car if they say it is totaled. Just get the most you can for it and start over.

Well it for parts ^^^ May take a long time to part it out but it will likely be close if not more than what it’s worth

Plus no ins co will deem a car totaled for a door ding so there more damage than you’re saying

Or take a trip south of the border and sell it there

Ask them what the salvage value of the car is. It is probably around $1000.00. Tell them you want to keep the car, and take the money less the $1000.00.

Get on the phone, call a couple of BMW salvage yards tell them what you have an send pics. The last time I had to do that, I ended up getting $3K for the junk car from a junk yard. BMW used parts sell for a premium, especially if the engine and trans don't have over 120K miles on them!

Make yourself $2K on the deal, get a better replacement car.

I'm feeling lots of anxiety and losing sleep after the crash.
Run up some medical bills and demand compensation for the pain and suffering.
Never forget, the insurance company isn't going to give away investor money so you will have to insist on compensation. They don't make money, which is their primary function, except by settling claims cheaply.

Ajays car was salvaged because the part with the ding that needs to be replaced is no longer made but point was AAA lied and said here’s your money we can’t fix your car you can keep it and not get as much as if we took possession of the car but here 💸
If there is more than 2 vehicles/people involved the insurance company can get sneaky! They have a quota they cannot pay out more than and their job is to keep it as low as possible. I was rear ended and then rear ended my friend so my car was totaled because damages exceeded value of car, my car was not paid off so that part sucked but they fully took care of that portion plus my injuries loss of time, loss of income due to no vehicle and they only paid for rental for 30days and took 5months to pay I should have fought harder for more but I was so over it I gave in but I in no way got cheated they drag things out hoping your going to give in.

I did not expect this much good advice! thank you all so much! truly appreciate it. I know a week has gone by but I am so far satisfied with the outcome. my car is gone i'm happy with the pay out and the rental was nice. I ended up just making $ out of this whole situation and I am thankful. I just don't know what to choose now.. I am starting to think a Lexus is the way to go..
