I don't believe the law specifies what the mother has to do after the birth.
She could just go home from the hospital alone, and leave the state's burden behind.

If you even listen to the legislators in Alabama, they are saying they pushed the envelope to get the Supreme Court to re-look at this issue.
The most liberal states have gone off the rails with 3rd trimester abortions. Even 'abortion' after birth...really?????
