You should never hike alone. You never know what might happen and you should always have a partner.

Hi Roxy, Black Star Canyon sounds awesome. I'm happy you had a nice hike and enjoyed yourself. I know you would have preferred hiking with the group, but suggest hiking alone n at night can be unsafe. Let's hike together some time.

Glad you didn't end up on SOS Survivor (Weather Channel Survival series). Not a smart thing to hike alone, hike in the dark especially where you've never been, or hike unprepared for the unexpected. But glad you're back and have a good story to tell.
(Look up a few of the SOS Survival episodes, just for giggles)

Tell me you had a GPS, flashlight and bear spray?
I hike alone all the time, but I'd be happy to join you if you need a partner, Roxy.

Tell me you had a .44 mag., flashlight, and a GPS

(Lamar, she probably carries that stuff in her regular life already)

(Butt, probably only when she goes to LA)

Cougars are much more dangerous than black bears

^^^Must not be a white guy...

haunted, yes, but don't ask where all the bodies are buried from the 70's

In yesterday's weather, a little rain can be worse than a large hungry animal. Predators can be chased away. Rain does not relent, and my hiking crew and I have had to help carry people down the trail to a place where medics could look at them due to sliding on mud and doing real damage to themselves.
So, in short, don't hike alone. Mother nature knows no mercy, and you may be at the mercy of who ever helps you if you do get in trouble.

Ya it's the Mountain Lions. Chances are they see you first.
I camped out there one night back in the day with friends. Never thought about cougars. Wink wink...
I've been told that I'm scarier than a lot of what's out there. I love you for caringand appreciate the advice. Don't worry, I came prepared. Super prepared. 😉

Kevlar vest and a shotgun?
Cougars AKA mountain lions are protected in the state of California.
Because of that there is an overpopulation of them.
They are nocturnal and practiced hunters. One cannot be too prepared.
Never mess with a wild cat. Exception might be if you were an Alaskan Brown bear

Why is it that "ladies" from HX can never be on time? They are ALWAYS late but its NEVER THEIR FAULT.
maybe you are the problem?

I hope you meant the hike was from 6AM to 10AM...... the views in that Canyon are better when there is sunlight..
I also hope it was AM hiking, there are some weird happenings in Black Star canyon, though I think 1 of the weirdo's is now in jail.
Don't go alone again please...........prepared or not!

Fubs, want to hike it with me? I need some bear bait.
Be careful, he might want to turn you into a flying fish.
^^^You know that made NOOOOOO sense, right?
(It's about time someone started critiquing some of these comments. And I be that someone.)

Dude im trying to keep you from getting pushed off a cliff. mmmmkay.

The thanks i get around here.

Hiking at night solo is not recommended especially at BSC. there have been mountain lions sightings there. also, rattlers are super hard to see at night!
FYI for future....
There are mountain lions and cougars out there. You're really lucky you didnt become a snack.
Roxy - where is Black Star Canyon? Sounds like a great hiking place.
I told the group to wait for some awesome eye candy, but I got outvoted and didn't want to wait for you. 😊😋

@RoxyPiper
that ghost at Black Star Canyon, is just FUBAR running around Naked with a white sheet covering him and a couple of small glow sticks wrapped around his DIck
sorry to ruin the mystery for you
Roxy, try Peter's Canyon in Irvine. That hill always kicks my out of shape ass every time.
Roxy, you could have been on the news. And not in a good way.
People are very casual about hiking in unfamiliar territory alone, and they should not be.
Slip on a loose rock and you fall over a cliff or just snap an ankle. Or, hell, just fall and hit your head.
Grab onto a branch for balance and - OOPS! - it is rotted. There you go over that cliff again!
Get lost, no cell service, and spend the night with the coyotes and mountain lions.
At night, the snakes like to snuggle up to anything warmer than the cold ground. They're so cuddly!
Something as minor as a spider bite can become a life-and-death situation if you are on your own, especially if you don't know what you are supposed to do.
You can be just a few miles away from so-called civilization, and it might as well be a hundred miles.
I heard people go up there to do satanic rituals and stuff. Regardless of what you believe in, people doing crazy stuff is not unheard of. Im just saying- I wouldn't go out there with anything less than my 90lb pitbull when I went.
I agree with Ms.Maggie
Fubs weighs more than 90 lbs. But he likes being on a leash....just sayin
Blackstar Canyon is next to Silverado, 10min drive east past Irvine Lake.
Quite a few people hike Black Star Canyon trail at night. First 30-45 mins is straight dirt path, pretty safe. The last 3/4 mile to falls is not easy, especially last portion.
