Phil's in San Diego is good. In fact, there are several locations in the San Diego area
Joey's Barbecue in Chino is also a good place to eat. Very casual.

Chato Garcias Barbacoa on Crenshaw.

Summer...I will smoke some baby backs for you....6-7 hours, slow cook, maybe some cherry wood for the smoke......
Meat just falls off the bone....and then we can bone....

Famous Dave's? he isn't famous for BBQ.
don't know what he's famous for.
Dickey's menu has a lot of sandwiches.
didn't see plates or platters of BBQ'ed meats.
i skip them both.
|
|
Actually they both fall short.

Tony Romas was my go to place back in the day.

for kalifornia decent BBQ isn't much, but Lucile's is up there, Dickey's has lost a lot in it's franchising, not the place it was 40 years ago for sure.
without traveling out of state, your options are limited.

Famous Dave's apparently has not done very well in Southern California. When I check for locations in Orange County the only one that comes up is in Irvine. There used to be a location at Bristol and Macarthur near South Coast Plaza and another location along the 91 with a Tustin address I believe. It seems both of those are no longer in business.
I would probably look for something better than Dave's.

I like Lucille's but Phil's (in San Diego) is slightly better.
|
|
I ate at Dickey's once and didn't like it. I love Famous Dave's and have eaten there many times but that's just my opinion.

I love Famous Dave's. It was a heartbreaker that their Temecula location closed. But there's one in Henderson, NV that I go to a lot when I'm in Las Vegas. Haven't tried Dickie's, but I hear it's good too. Btw: respect to whoever mentioned Dr. Hogly Wogly's!

Pizza Q BBQ in Colton off the 215 south of the10 freeway has AMAZING baby back ribs!
1231 E. Washington Street! The BABY BACK RIBS are AMAZING and the meat falls of the bone 🦴!

have mando deliver his home made ribs\
don't forget to leave a tip

Hogly Wogly's is legit. Also Woody's in Santa Barbara/Goleta gets a mention, although I haven't been in a few years. Dickey's food is pretty good, but their attention to small details has slipped so much IMO. There isn't enough top down pride in their chain any more. Haven't had Famous Dave's so I can't comment on that...

15 years ago, Famous Dave's was good but they suck now.
In LA Bludso's is very good barbecue. They have a restaurant on La Brea and a counter at the food court at the Proud Bird, 5 minutes south of LAX

Both are terrible.
Try Lucille’s. If you’re in Corona/Norco area, Badlands is good. Or Woodfire Grill. You can also try Johnny Rebs in Bellflower or Orange.

Bludso's Barbecue is great!
