I think it was W. C. Fields who said “Don’t give money to politicians. It just encourages them”.

If the lobbyists and interest groups write legislation who will they get to replace the lobbyists and interest groups.?

IMO
1) Pay Congress members 500k. Pay President and VP 1-2 million. Increase staff pay.
2) Make lobbying illegal period. Make it illegal for politicians to give and attend private speeches.
3) Publicize all politicians and public worker's itemized income.
4) Give an annual voucher to every adult citizen for $100 (that expires at end of year if unused) that can be donated to politicians for a cause and make regular donations to politicians and affiliates illegal, period.
5) Make it illegal for any public servant to take any C-suite or role paying more than 250k for 10 years after they serve as a public servant.
Although that still wouldn't prevent any industry heavyweight from saying, "Listen, Mr. Senator, you know your son will always be welcome as a member of our board, right?" with a nod and a wink -- no quid pro quo.
So maybe...
6) Publicize a list of every person every Congressman/President/etc. meets or calls, aside from classified intelligence. And start a Public Network Committee to research family members of public officials who work in industries that has met with the public worker and publish any incidents over a 10 year period.
7) Support some form of run-off voting.

Unfortunately the Supreme Court has ruled “money is speech.” Unless we are willing to change the constitution... money will be there.
I love the ideas... it would be nice if some of them were viable.
The only way to get a legitimate 3rd or 4th candidate in the race is with about a 2 billion dollars each... and that might not even be enough. The Blue and Red machines would unify against them.
Mr. Michael Douglas, show me a candidate worth supporting and I will get behind him/her and support them with my money, time and energy.
