Uh huh

not at all, they both know he's not going to be found guilty of anything

I’m pretty sure if Nancy didn’t have the votes... she would delay the debate in order to continue to whip votes. Monday it seems like most of the Democrats closed ranks and committed to the vote.
Executive Privilege does not keep Bolton from being called as a witness... but he cannot be compelled to testify concerning issues that pertain to Executive Privilege. That privilege is not about the staff... and is not limited to the classification of the information. Its about the executive. His conversations with his staff and cabinet are protected even after they leave service... for as long as that privilege lasts.
If that were not the case, staff would have to remain in government service for the duration of a president’s tenure.
I think Thedon60’s assessment is correct. The Democrats miscalculated by putting the impeachment schedule ahead of pursuing legal channels to compel testimony.
They were in a tough spot. Go to court and let this thing drag out another 60-90 days... not knowing how the Senate would handle the trial... long or short. This thing goes into late winter... spring and cuts into the primary campaign schedule. Or... go with what they were able to get without the courts and compress the timeline hoping to get this over before campaign season.
It was a tough choice with no way to know which way things would turn.
It’s still going to go the way it was a month ago. Vote along party lines in the house with just a few defectors (not enough to change the outcome).
The Senate vote goes similar to the house. It never even approaches the 2/3s needed for the president to be convicted and removed.
I only started the original blog because Politico posted an article about the number of Democrats that were struggling with voting to impeach because they were going to be in tight races for their seat.
Nancy is a 2 time speaker for a reason.

There is no one in the white house to check trump. His idea to send a letter tonight shows the rest of the world we have lunatic for president. I have this picture of trump in my head. Trump is being cradled by malania as he sucks on her enhanced breast.
" nobody love me..!!!"
You don’t know Trump.
That dude thinks EVERYBODY loves him except SOME Democrats and MOST of the media.
“How could everyone not love me? Everything I do is perfect!”

It’s like saying, “Whoo Hoo! A team of Doctors believes the country has cancer! YAY!”

Its actually sad. Its sad that we have such a corrupt guy as our president. ,,,,,but after all the lies, spinning and bullshit its good he will be brought to account at least in the House.
I wonder how someone becomes the “Reading Clerk” for the House of Representatives.

Bottom line is it's going to be another win for Trump when the dust settles and the Dems will look foolish again. They ought to focus on getting something done for their constituents (address homelessness, the cost of medications, graduate more doctors, graduate more engineers and technical people, etc) instead of trying to reverse the 2016 election. This weak impeachment effort is going to hurt them in 2020. It doesn't matter how much you try to pump it up into something important. Funny to see CNN, MSNBC, etc. trying to wish him away. The fact that their ratings are so low is an indicator that they are not even engaging enough of the far left, let alone Independents, to beat him in 2020. All but the most rabid (Left coast and NY) see this impeachment as a boring nothing burger.

I bet not one Republican Senator votes to find Trump guilty. Not one.
Now that the bar is so low, i'm looking forward to the next duly elected Democrat President being impeached by the Republican house.
Then the next Republican President being impeached by the Democrat house
etc etc etc

Past one article by 33 votes, the other by 31.
Ooooh, yeah, that was close. Very shaky. Very shaky yesterday indeed. Such drama. Let's distract ourselves with yet another non-story instead focusing on the crazy fucking, really fucking dumb President who does whatever Putin tells him to do.
Yeah, nothing to see here. Totally normal. No double standard or partisanship here. If Obama was doing the stuff Trump is doing, I would've cheered him on.
And there's totally no former members of his administration who have ever warned the country that our President is a "moron", "uninterested in policy", "unstable", "an idiot", and on and on and on. I mean his own Secretary of State absolutely never said Trump would routinely tell him to do something and he'd have to tell he can't because it was against the law and basically not in the best interest of our country. Yeah, that didn't happen.
Anyone, and I mean ANYone who isn't praying every night that Trump resigns or that every goddamn fucking Republican in Congress descends on the White House to demand his resignation has their head buried firmly in the sand.
And for the love of God stop repeating Putin's hand-written talking points. You're Americans. Act like it.
None of you who support Trump are stupid. You're just fucking stubborn and being tribal. Stop it.
Dangerous and alarming shit happens in front of your eyes on video almost everyday. How many more times do you need to see and hear Republicans who were in his administration or have been leading voices on Fox News for a decade tell you how what he has done does damage to our Constitution and is 100% impeachable or that he's crazy, unstable, uninterested and just fucking dumb. These are life-long Republicans.
How many clips do you need to see of the same people who are kissing his ass now that he's elected describing Trump as a pathological liar or a con man before he got elected? And you know how big a liar he is. Your eyes aren't defective, you just haven't been man enough to admit you backed the wrong horse or whatever reason you have.
Well, for the good of the country, fuckin' man up. I'm not perfect. I was a Bill Clinton fan until he championed some really fucking bad legislation so he could stay popular with big business.
I also call out when Dems do bullshit like Richard Neal, the Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, who "teamed up with a Republican ally last week to effectively torpedo bipartisan legislation that aimed to curb surprise medical bills—a major source of financial pain for people who experience medical emergencies and other serious ailments."
He sold out to the private equity sector who makes a lot of money off of people who have to borrow to cover those surprise medical bills and, of course, those companies have donated handsomely to his campaign. That's a Democrat who did that shit. I didn't go, "Yeah, he's right! That's my boy!"

You may want to get more than three data points to make your argument.

This is not a day for celebration. It’s a sad day for the country. Though I believe the decision is the right one, the country suffers nonetheless.
Objectively, POTUS used his position and used tax payer money to bribe a foreign official for political gain and then ignored and obstruction congress in their constitutional oversight duty. This is not partisan, it is wrong and illegal. People may choose to take a partisan position but those facts are undeniable. Even if you take the position that the bribery part is not justified, obstruction of justice is still an impeachable offense.
Senate may or may not convict. That’s almost immaterial. The main point is the next guy who may think twice about doing something like that ever again.
And if you think Trump is being treated unfairly, he wanted Obama impeached because he used an executive order to stop the deportation of illegal aliens who were parents of American citizens. Imagine what he would said if 44 did the things he did.
Trump also believed Bush should have been impeached for lying about the war... lol 😂
Nancy is a fucking idiot....
NANCY should run for President in 2020!!
J502, add RMN in 1974 although technically not impeached. That's 106 years from Johnson. Then 24 years to Clinton in 1998, then 21 years to Trump.
When Trump is reelected, I would expect him to be impeached again. That would be 1 to maybe 2 years from now.
So, um yeah. Parabolic is your new word of the day.
He was impeached around February 24, 1868. The is 2019 dude.........151 years.
"Senate may or may not convict. That’s almost immaterial. The main point is the next guy who may think twice about doing something like that ever again."
Why? If Trump is impeached by not convicted, it is meaningless. He can continue doing what he wants to do with impunity. In fact, what may happen in the future, especially if Trump is reelected, is to make impeachment without conviction meaningless. Do you realize Trump is looking better in the latest polls?
Senate not going to give a fair trial or convict so (that) is meaningless.
The Impeachment has put a big spotlight on Trumps future conduct. Its going to be hard for him to do bullshit like this a 3rd time but I wouldn't put it past him to try it again in the last year of his term. Especially if he thinks his going face financial charges if he loose and leaves office end of next year.
Lol, dude. I dont want to assume anything about you, yet. But here's how it goes.
Johnson 1868
Nixon 1974
Clinton. 1998
Trump 2019
Trump 2021
Measure the gaps in time, u get 106, 24, 21, then 2. That assumes Trump is reelected then reimpeached by 2021. On a graph, that is represented by a parabolic curve.
K?
I have no idea what your logic even means.
J502, I guess I live in the sand (beach) and you're the worlds only living brain donor if you even remotely expect trump be convicted in the senate, and this not to backfire in the DONKEYS and that senile bitch Pelosi in November. History does repeat itself my friend.
“The Impeachment has put a big spotlight on Trumps future conduct. Its going to be hard for him to do bullshit like this a 3rd time.”
How? Any evidence he will stop? Any evidence that an impeachment that does nothing to limit his power will do anything to prevent abuses of power? And if he does something else, what will the Democrats do......impeach him again?
LMFAO!!!
And during the whole damn circus hearing, polls have shown it’s MORE likely Trump will win re-election.
To all those who think impeachment without removal will mean anything....until you have hard proof....enjoy living in your bubble!!

Just trying to help out, Dude.
Go back to my first comment about the low bar being set and the ease with which a duly elected president will be impeached by a House dominated by the other party. This is an issue that the Founders argued about, a lot.
The point is that impeachment and trial are the nuclear option.
From an independents point of view, neither Clinton nor Trump qualify for that.
GBD, I couldn't agree more! As someone who ran for state office as a republican 25 years ago, I'm now an independent because I know longer believe that either party has the people's best interests at heart. ad, but true. The best thing that could happen would be to force all of congress to go back to the pay scale that they received in the first 4 score years of the country. Just my .02

I think they should have a real trial in the Senate with John Roberts making all the decisions that a real judge makes. Rudy G, Pompeo, Bolton, Mulvanie should all be forced to testify. If they can find a real reason to make Hunter Biden testify he should too but if the reason is because your dad helped you get a job with Ukraine that paid a lot of money, then they should call Ivanka in too and find out how she got all those Chinese patients.
Don’t try to reason with “The Dude” The asshole is just fine with partisan impeachment with no evidence of any crime. All witnesses were Democrat activists
''All witnesses were Democrat activists"
Dude you are a very old fool. The witnessed were career professionals of Trump's OWN administration.
Did you even watch any of the hearing or did the old folks home you're at take away your TV privileges?? Trump and Rudy hatched their plan the get Ukraine to get them dirt months before that call
........oh yeah Sondland had donated a million dollars to Trumps inauguration and he was given his Ukraine job directly from Trump and Trump called him directly to see if Ukraine was going to make an announcement that they were going to investigate the Bidens
There is a definite reason to investigation Ukraine and Hunter Biden. Far more reason than the FISA warrant for Carter Page. We need to investigate the Hillary Clinton and FBI involvement in the falsified FISA applications.
Do you really think Hunter earned some job that paid $80,000 a month......shit, I have some beach front property in Iowa we need to discuss if you believe that bullshit.
“I think they should have a real trial in the Senate with John Roberts making all the decisions that a real judge makes.” - Dude
You don’t want that. No one on the left wants that. Schumer is saying it for the same Reason Trump is saying it. Because they both know it won’t happen.
Most of the testimony from the hearings wouldn’t get in. Without the heresay testimony... and just real evidence not interpreted evidence... this goes nowhere.
Like Tom Cruise said In “A Few Good Men”, “It’s not what I believe... it’s what I can prove!”
You can make it sound bad. You can make it look bad. The problem is proving he didn’t want an investigation... just the announcement. He didn’t believe there was corruption, he just wanted to dirty Biden. Those are impossible things to prove.
Here is the thing. I believe Trump actually believed the Bidens were involved in corruption in Ukraine. How do you prove he didn’t. You can’t. Even if you think, “We’ll, those stories were debunked.”
Trump has a history of not believing Intelligence Reports and Government Investigation results. Why would he believe they were right about Biden?
“Well, he had a selfish motive!” Again... that’s not against the law as long as it is paired with a legitimate motive.
This thing goes nowhere.
Kaiser makes good points. The Democrats rushed this thru without calling critical witnesses who had first hand knowledge of Trumps motives. The case is based on 3rd hand accounts and suppositions. Maybe Pelosi realizes this and is trying to get the Senate to approve calling more witnesses. I doubt she will succeed. ( And I am a Trump hater)
Fighting to get Mulvaney and Bolton were their only hope. They are the only ones could have had first hand knowledge of his intent (Probably Guliani too ... but as his attorney that is privilege that never expires).
I doubt either one of them... even Bolton would say, “Yeah, the President said, I don’t care about corruption. If we can hang this Ukraine thing around Biden’s neck... it will help me win next November.”
But that’s what it will take for the masses to say he was proven guilty.
I would bet $1,000,000 that he said something like that to Guliani... but Guliani won’t talk until he puts it in a book years after Trump is out of office.
But it is almost impossible to prove “criminal activity” without his help.

Washington DC is Hollywood for ugly people

Lol...at ALL these disturbed Republicans...man you folks are just unhappy with yourself.
