For those condemning him they enjoy riding the fence.

Starting another war without congressional approval is wrong. I seriously don’t understand you folk who are happy to enter another war, considering our last war didn’t go so well. The question you have to ask yourself is, was his life worth the countless lives that will be lost in another never ending entanglement in the Middle East? Yes, the Iranians have been very civil human beings. They shot down a $200 million U.S. drone, seized a British tanker and kept them for 2 months, blew up a Saudi oil facilities shutting down 50% of their production, and stormed a U.S. Embassy and burned down the Embassy reception building.
They will definitely sit down and negotiate. If you know anything about the Middle East.....it is about who has the power. Show weakness and they eat you for lunch.

The “Peace Deal” that everyone is so broken up about was so one sided it isn’t even funny. It slowed the development of their nuclear program, but that was it, just a delay. Ever stop to think about why Israel was against it? Why this administration pulled out of it? Because we are the two countries those peace loving Iranians are always chanting death to... And that becomes a much scarier proposition in a few years if Iran gets nukes. Oh, and our friendly European and Russian comrades are all making money selling them the equipment to enrich the material, so not really objective partners in the process.
I know. It’s much more fashionable to be anti-Israel in some circles these days, and of course there is still the fact that ORANGE MAN BAD!!!! Please ask yourself this question though. Would you all have your panties in a twist if Obama had made this same decision? Contrary to what some folks are parroting, Obama was was not above droning bad guys left and right. I think there is a good chance he might have authorized the same strike if he were the man in charge.

The peace deal kept them from developing nuclear weapons. We had a coalition of countries inspecting them at regular intervals to make sure that there nuclear program would never develop into weapons. Every country and every independent organization that was apart of this deal said it was working and iran was complying.
I understand that some of you may not have liked the deal but pulling out of it was probably the worst thing you could do. If you don’t like it why not renegotiate? The only thing that pulling out does is tell the iranians that it was a bad idea to trust us. How else are they supposed to take it?
Both Obama and Bush had opportunities to kill him and they decided against it because it was stupid to start another war. If Bush is smart enough to make that decision what does that tell you about trump.

How would we feel if the head of our Joint Chief of staff was planning to kill some Iranians or their supporters or militias. Then the Iranians got word or sensed this would happen soon. Then our General went to Saudi Arabia to whip up support. When he got off the plane he was blown up by an Iranian drone. I doubt if we would be understanding.

Let's keep this simple, guys. Iran crossed a red line by killing Americans and destroying American property. Soleimani was responsible for what happened to the American embassy in Iraq and was planning larger-scale attacks that would have cost American lives. We needed to let the Iranians know that their escalating behavior was unacceptable, so we hit them hard on the nose. We needed to let the world know that killing Americans and destroying American property is unacceptable, and we are going to do something about it.

That’s your problem. These things aren’t simple. International diplomacy is hard. Trump eroded any gains we made with Iran and now they have become our biggest adversary. If you only concentrate on the things that happened over the past few days, from only one perspective, it might seem smart to you, but you’d have to block out everything this admin has been doing to provoke these actions.

You make it too complicated. Let me give you a historical analogy. Would you say Americans were responsible for the bombing of Pearl Harbor? You can say that FDR and the Americans made the Japanese desperate via the oil embargo and other methods they were using to squeeze the Japanese economy as a response to their militarism oversees. The Japanese tried to negotiate with the Americans, but to no avail. So then they attacked Pearl Harbor. Now would you seriously say that it's too simplistic to blame the Japanese for Pearl Harbor when you put it in context? No, you wouldn't. It doesn't matter what happened previously. The bombing of Pearl Harbor was an inexcusable action that needed to be responded to, no matter what happened previously. Same thing with the Iranians. The death and injuring of Americans, the action against the U.S. embassy in Iraq, and the knowledge that future imminent action against Americans and American property by Suleimani made the actions taken by the U.S. and Trump justifiable, no matter what transpired before. Iraqi behavior was unacceptable and needed to be responded to. Period.

No, the Iranians and their leaders are not what the conservative warhawks preach. They were notn angels by any means, but they were open to more and more changes to benefit their country and the region. Much like the former Soviets.
Then Trump came and fucked it all up.
Now we are in a situation that we have taken out a sitting national leader. Not a head of state but a powerful second.
Yes, this man was despicable, capable of barbarity and no one should mourn his loss. But he was also part of an existing government. A government that respects strength, and is respected for its strength by friends and foes alike. There is no way Iran cannot strike back in kind, not without llosing influence and dominance in the region.

We’ve been letting the Iranians get away with too much for too long. That is why they began attacking our citizens and property with impunity. If they understand their behavior towards Americans and American property over the past 15 years or so is unacceptable, this exercise was worth it, even if things escalate a bit for a while. No one wants a full scale war.
Trump is recalibrating a relationship where other American leaders have been too soft for too long.

Half true... the coalition inspections were limited to sites approved by the Iranians. There were multiple other sites the US and Israel wanted to be inspected and Iran refused to include them. President Obama thought it was better to have a deal in place even if it wasn’t the best.
Israel is the one with the most at risk. Iran has a goal to wipe them off the face of the earth.
Trump believes that having a bad deal isn’t worth having when they get to continue to have uninspected sites and have the sanctions lifted. My understanding is that like North Korea... Iran believes Nuclear weapons are the only things that will give them a formidable voice on the world stage... and the power to deal with their sworn enemies.
I understood President Obama’s reasoning... I also understand President Trump’s.

Actually in many respects Iran is an advanced country. An energetic peoples interested in advancing themselves. A people who do not want war. An advanced culture with literature and cinema. The last inspections show the nuclear treaty was holding. An issue not much discussed is how the US has tried to strangle their economy thru ever increasing sanctions on oil etc. This provocation has something to do with the rulers stance against the US. From what I have heard from Iranian friends the US has been well liked by many Iranians, young and old. But the killing of their General is pushing them to the side of the Mullahs .

It’s been well reported how we have led the charge on sanctions that have crippled their economy... but we have been doing that for decades, along with the UN and many allies because it has been proven over and over again that Iran is a State Sponsor of Terror.
