The Sad Truth

Interesting article in Polotico about a research article that showed people who are exposed to factually inaccurate information respond by becoming more accurate after being presented with the correct information. That sounds pretty good, right?

Well hold on. It turns out, even when presented with and accepting the accurate information, they don’t change their opinions.

In other words, the facts don’t matter. Even if the facts don’t support their position on a particular issue, it doesn’t change their position.

That is essentially the definition of stupid.

It is a sad truth about human beings, Democrats, Republicans and Independents. Religious people and non Religious. Carnivores and Vegans. iPhone users and Android users. We are stubborn and pigheaded.

But usually facts do not outweigh our personal value systems. “True” and “right” are two different things... just like “fair” and “just” do not mean the same thing.

The other thing is our ability to choose which facts should be deciders. This killing of Soleimani is the perfect example. Only a pigheaded fact ignorer can’t see the validity of those who think it was a bad move AND those who think it was the right move.

What is even sadder... is our need to force people to have our values... and when they don’t ... we attack each other.

But we are immature that way... and the internet brings out a brashness that most manage otherwise in their day to day life.
