MrBubbles, your citation of the OC wuhan virus case is pretty specific wrt the patient’s location. I’ve googled multiple ways and can not find anything in the news that mentions the whereabouts of the OC patient that you have written above.
Can you provide a link to your source?
The only thing I’ve found was from OC Health Agency that confirms a case in OC but no mention of IVC college or Woodbridge Apts.

From what I understand, the virus can be transmitted BEFORE symptoms appear. And it’s not just through hand and physical contact, but open pores such as eyes along with the nose & mouth are all potential entry points. If you do any search online on videos leaked out by Wuhan residents, you’ll see them wearing swim goggles in addition to face masks because of the potential for transmission.

The above quoted text is also being reported in American Chinese media. There is no mention of the Woodbridge apartments- Chinese media references one of Irvine's apartment communities without mentioning it by name. IVCC and Foothill Regional Medical Center are also mentioned in the Chinese media reports.
As with all news reports - English or Chinese - sensationalizing these concerning events earns such reports an accumulative value of website "clicks." They may or may not be true, so digest such reports with measured skepticism.

Most likely the numbers will rise very quickly. The reported incubation period is 2 weeks.
Imagine all the other people on those airplanes that were exposed but will take weeks to show symptoms. All the while milling about in the general public. Schools, health care facilities, ect.

CACutieClub, what worries me is how much the Chinese govt is NOT telling us; I still remember what happened with SARS and how the Chinese media weren’t forthcoming with the details. Hopefully your business isn’t affected too much, but I’m going to stay away from Asian providers until we have a better grasp of the situation.
LetMeIn69, my thoughts exactly! I was just thinking about how many people are already infected, but just not showing symptoms right now, but have been spreading the virus unknowingly. Even the former head of CDC was cautioning how much worse the actual figures may be, partly bc we are quarantine folks only after they’ve shown symptoms.

Age ranges from 30’s to senior citizens. In comparison to 2003 SARS, which took almost 2 months to spread to 459 cases, but only had incubation period of 2-7 days. SARS had higher fatality rate, but that could also be due to fewer infected cases were officially reported by the Chinese govt.
The former head of FDC, Dr. Scott Gottlieb, said on CNBC it could be a few months before a successful drug treatment could be made. Currently 3 major US drug makers are working on a drug, best case and quickest way is if they can use an existing drug and modify it for Coronavirus. One wild theory is the virus may be mutating as it spreads, which would make it harder to treat and stop infecting others... the term “going viral” is taking on a different and literal meaning in this case.

There’s an adadge: “a known asshole is better than an unknown one”... the flu may kill more bc it’s been around longer and at least there are various effective cures, whereas the Coronavirus is relatively unknown with no effective treatments... imagine the panic and fears of AIDS/ HIV in the early days? I still remember when Magic announced his retirement due to HIV positive status.
Anyway, there’s a certain amount of risk you have to be willing to take if you’re a hobbyist on HX; I’m all about taking calculated risks while living dangerously for a brief moment, just not going to throw caution into the wind... after all, isn’t that why we are here on HX instead of Craigslist?
