Could be argued that's an ex-post facto law which is unconditional.
Don't know the facts in this situation so hard to determine.

Fucking spell check!
"Unconstitutional"
|

I would assume there's a morals clause in his contract that would protect the team and void his contract in a case like this.

To my knowledge... they didn’t pay.
The argument wasn’t that the law was unconstitutional.... but simply outdated.
The family of Odin Lioyd (the person he was convicted of killing) were key in challenging the law.
Either way, it doesn’t seem right to change a law retroactively in a way that has impact on a directly related case.
I don’t mean to trivialize the crime with this analogy... but it seems like you drive 65 in a 65 mph zone... then after you drive through... they later change it to a 40 mph zone.... and write you a ticket.
I’m sure that is a poor example.... but you get my point.

Wasn't he already convicted on the Odin Lloyd case and appealing a different case?

It’s a bit of a convoluted story.... here is a general order of events...
Here are the accusations:
Killed 2, wounded one in a car at a stoplight after leaving a club. Police had no leads. shooter was driving a silver SUV.
Hernandez’s “friend” was shot in the head at close range and left for dead. Friend said he didn’t know who shot him.
Hernandez becomes paranoid/fearful. Asked to be traded. Bought guns, Home security system, rented an apartment where he could hang out, smoke
Odin Loyd killed
Hernandez arrested for lLloyd killing, a LOT of circumstantial evidence. Find a silver SUV stored at his cousin’s house.
The guy who was shot in the head comes forward and says it was Hernandez that shot him. After being shot, he was found, rushed to the hospital. The next day, he called Hernandez and said, “What’s up?”
He said he didn’t tell the police who shot him because he wanted to get revenge himself.
He says He was with Hernandez When Hernandez shot the people at the stoplight.
Police begin to piece together Stoplight shooting.
Hernandez convicted of killing Odin Lloyd. Appeal the conviction.
He goes on trial for the stoplight shooting. Acquitted.
While Odin Lloyd appeal is in process, he kills himself in prison.
His conviction is vacated due to the Massachusetts Abatement law.
LLoyd family helps to get the Abatement law taken off the books.
Court’s refusal-instate Hernandez’s conviction.

Haven’t seen any of the specials out now and not really sure I care enough to watch them, but talk about one hell of a life story.
|
|
Sorry... that last line should say, Court reinstates Hernandez’s conviction.
|
|
The court did not increase his punishment. He was already dead.

@kaiser your speeding analogy is incorrect. It assumes the driver was following the law at the time the law was changed.
This would be more accurate:
Driver is doing 90 mph in a 65 mph zone. He gets a ticket. Law says ticket goes off your record if you get your car impounded. They change the law so even if you do get your car impounded, the ticket now stays on your driving record like it otherwise would have.

|
Your analogy is better.

I was under the impression they were in the process of proving him innocent when he killed himself . Correct me if I'm wrong wasn't one charge overturned and the other was in the process till he committed suicide??
|
|
They didn’t mention that in the documentary.
He was convicted of killing Oden Lloyd, received a life sentence. He was appealing.
He was acquitted of the shooting at the stoplight that killed to and injured 1.

Rosita lol I thought he was hot to lol

If only that bad stuff hadn't come out, he could still be shooting people at stoplights ......

“His death doesn't added up to me. I don't think he kill himself.”
Sentence structure and word usage weren’t his strong suits either.
I am guessing the THREE separate hand written suicide notes (fiancé, daughter, lawyer) were faked!
|
|
Sorry. Good job on the English then!
Much better-o than my spanish-o
The only word I can type in Spanish is “Danke”
So you got me there....
but ... if he didn’t kill himself... who wrote the 3... long.... handwritten suicide notes?

Wasn't that dude gay? Not that there's anything wrong with that. jus axin.

I think he batted from both sides of the plate.
He was 27 when he killed himself. In the documentary, they had a guy friend that used to “mess around” after football practice 10-12 years earlier.
When the news came out that Arron was gay, the friends dad got pissed. He started yelling, “Those liars. They are saying Aaron was gay! Aaron wasn’t gay! Aaron’’s father (who died 13 years earlier) is rolling over in his grave hearing lies that his son is gay!”
It took a couple of months... but the son finally told his dad, “Uhhh dad, Aaron was gay. The reason I know is because... well... I used to suck his dick... and he would eat my ass and then I would draw X’s and O’s On his ass.... and a football on my dick. He would call out a play ... and I would run the ball.... and see if I could hit the hole.”
Ok... those details weren’t in the documentary... but he did come out of the closet by telling his dad, The reason I know Aaron is gay is because I am too and we have been together.”
