"During the 2018-2019 season, the CDC estimates 16.5 million people went to a health care provider for the flu and more than 34,000 people died in the U.S. The prior season saw 61,000 deaths."
American Flu: 95,000 deaths (2018-2019)
Chinese Corona Virus: 0 deaths in the US
Perhaps it would be better to avoid non-Asian-possibly-flu infected providers than US based no-cases reported among Asian providers considering those statistics?

Good point, cuz your not biased at all considering your workforce

Fuck yeah

Link attached though I think you Asian-haters are possibly soup-droolers.

COVID-19 is new, we don't have a vaccine for it, we don't fully know all it's capabilities as compared to say Influenza A (H1N1) were we do have vaccines and we do know what it can do, how fast it mutates, it's transmission rates, rate of recovery etc.
What we really don't want are multiple cyclic pandemics floating around. Getting nailed by Influenza A then COVID-19 is pretty much a recipe for economic disaster for any country.
Not sure how race got into this. I mean COVID-19 and really any human transmissible virus doesn't give a care about what ethnicity you are.
Also Asian women are hot so not change in practices for me.

I am monitoring the spread of the virus through the attached link because I have relatives who are currently traveling internationally and because of the stock market correction caused by it.
Stock markets are down for a reason. The Coronavirus (COVID 19) is spreading quickly, and China’s economy is entangled with every other country’s economy around the world. If Chinese production of products (and parts that go into our products) slow down or stops, the entire world will quickly fall into recession.
Beyond economics, it is spreading quickly. We first learned about it in the last few days of 2019, and it has already spread to 85,000 people with almost 3,000 deaths. Two weeks ago it was only in China, now it’s in at least 56 counties. It may get really bad or it may not if governments and people around the world work together to fight this and to prevent its spread.
Apparently the British government “leaked” an internal study that predicted half a million people may die in England as “a reasonable” worst case scenario. Meaning, they are not exaggerating that it can get that bad. Some claim this was to scare the public into taking this epidemic seriously by taking proper precautions. Who knows what may happen.
There aren’t any cases in Southern California yet, and I don’t want to be alarmist. I don’t think we should be too worried about it until we start seeing cases locally, at which point precautions must be taken or it will continue to grow exponentially.

"There aren’t any cases in Southern California yet"
????????
that's not what the news is telling me
|
|
Things are about to change and get worse. All forms of contact will have a new level of risk. It's out there, particularly in California............
from the NY Times:
SEATTLE — Troubling new signs that the coronavirus is spreading in the United States emerged on Friday, as cases not explained by overseas travel or contact with a person known to be infected were reported in California, Oregon and Washington State.
Officials from the three states announced that their testing had found new cases: a high school student from north of Seattle; an employee of an elementary school in Oregon, near Portland; and a woman in Santa Clara County, Calif., in the heart of Silicon Valley

Trump has his go to defense for the coronavirus and everything that goes wrong "Trump rallies his base to treat coronavirus as a ‘hoax’". Real people getting sick but its a HOAX.
Everything either a hoax or Dems out to get him. Why the fuck doesn't he man up and TRY to be a fucking leader instead of a whining orange dumbass.
It baffles me how some of you guys would vote for this fool a second time.

...now it’s in at least 56 “countries”, not counties. Sorry for the typo.
Keep in mind that the US started off yesterday with 60 reported cases and we currently stand with 64 cases. Compared to the population of 327 million, that is a very small number. However, scientists are anticipating that that number will obviously grow in the proper steps are not taken.
If you you’ve read my posts before, I have been consistently against Trump for many reasons, so take this with a grain of salt if you like, but his decisions have made (and are going to make) things worse. I don’t want this to become a political discussion because what is happening has serious consequences, but just keep in mind that
(1) Trump is a science denier who has done everything he could to diminish our scientific community to justify deregulation and his inaction on global warming
(2j he defunded or cut funding programs that directly address pandemics like what we are facing now
(3) he only last week started to seriously address this crisis, when every day counts with this virus
(4) he appointed Mike Pence to manage the crisis, who is a science denier, who has no qualifications on addressing such a widespread problem, and who has been criticized for Indiana’s response to the spreading of HIV (see article).
Lastly, remember that just last week Trump said the US had everything under control and that “his experts” were saying the virus will likely die off during the summer on its own? He was trying to prevent panic selling in the stock market, which obviously didn’t work.
Again, let’s not get political, but the criticisms of Trump’s handling of this are justified. Hopefully the scientists force the taking of all steps necessary to minimize the spread of this virus. For now, Southern California is fine, but that may quickly change.
|
|
Yeah for sure man, let's not get political.
Latest I heard is that Trump colluded with Putin to make the virus with a Mattel chemistry kit. They spread it using the Pussy-Grab Maneuver (sorta like the Heimlich but different). Then they told the CDC and NIH to take a 2 week federal holiday so they could increase the body count and Americans would be grateful (but dead) that Trump took over and ruled like a king.
We better impeach him under the "You're Not Sciency Enough" clause. As for that douchebag Pence, we'll tar and feather him, then dilate his O-ring with a Louisville Slugger!
As long as we don't get political, we're good!

|
And, Thanos was only half right
|

*Facepalm*
COVID-19 is about as nasty as some more virulent strains of Influenza. Most people get mild crappy symptoms like coughing and fever while primary at risk groups are elderly and immune compromised (transplant patients, people who are currently ill, cancer patients etc).
The big difference between this virus and Influenza is that there is no vaccine at this time. If you took vaccines out of the mix for Influenza you'd end up with a fairly similar impact on populations.
|
|
^ The influenza virus has a mortality rate of about 0.1%, whereas CIVID-19 is about 2%. So COVID-19 is 20 times more deadly that the typical flu. It is also about twice as contagious. So if COVID-19 goes pandemic they are predicting it will kill 14 million people world wide. There would also be a significant economic impact. So it is kind of a big deal.
|
|
^Fair enough. However we're talking about reporting of disease which isn't often accurately tallied for both viruses.
https://www.statnews.com/2020/02/20/experts-say-confusion-over-coronavirus-case-count-in-china-is-muddying-picture-of-spread/
Influenza is well known and quite a large portion of the population is vaccinated so mortality rates are far lower because of this. Consider the H1N1 1918 outbreak which had a 2.5% mortality rate.
|
|
This is a serious thing...and NOT to be made political.
But it isn't time to panic and start running around saying the world is going to end.
Statistics are not always your friend. The coronavirus has a higher mortality rate right now due to the lack of a vaccine and that most of the infections are in nations that lack adequate medical. The mortality statistics are also skewed a bit due to the initial lack of timely diagnosis. When a new virus shows up, doctors don't know what they are looking for....delay in diagnosis, delay in proper treatment and greater mortalilty.
So the sky is NOT falling yet.....
|
|
But the main stream media hate Trump and want to panic the masses....and they are succeeding based upon some of the comments around here.....
|
|
Nope!!!!
But get Earthquake prepared for 1 month just in case shit hits the fan.
We'll see how this plays out in the next 30 days.

Yes. I take all my dates to chinese restaurants now since there is no waiting

"This is a serious thing...and NOT to be made political."
Who made it political?.......Trump did. After the bumbled press conference Trump gave the other day were he contradicted the CDC in front of the CDC it cost the market like 2 trillion dollars. This week the worst losses in over a decade.Investor clearly saw him lying and didn't but it. How do you not talk about politics when you have the President of the United States blaming everything on the Dems and the Media and calling a health crisis were people are dying all over the world a "HOAX".. While he's lying to the American people constantly saying as recently as last night that there is only 15 cases of coronavirus in the US when there over 70 confirmed cases and its increasing every day. Over 80,000 confirmed cases world wide.
This is how he deals with a crisis, sheer and straight incompetence!
|
|
Even though the CDC has been working on this issue since January, Trump initiated a travel ban to high risk countries and Trump requested $2.5 billion to help fund the crisis....
Shit head Schumer comes out and says too little too late.
No one said the $2.5 billion was all Trump wanted....but he was asking for quick response funding.
Schumer has no plan...just spend more. Why allocate funds when you don't need them. We allocated funds for ebola and did not spend all of the allocation. Allocate it and the Swamp spends it.....
|
|
Chuck and Nancy started this political stuff....they should have shut their mouths and responded to SUPPORT coronavirus funding and efforts, But they hate Trump so much, he must be responsible for the transmission of the virus.....that is making it political.
|
|
Trump is lying again to the American people and you Trump supporters are the only ones buying his bullshit. You believe everything this joker says. What wrong with you guys??
|
|
He throws out some bigoted bullshit and has you guys hooked for life on every dumb thing he says. You have lost the ability to think clearly for yourselves and believe and try to twist every dumbass thing that comes out of his mouth as truth. This is the kind of shit people do in North Korea or places that have an authoritarian leaders. I never thought I see it here in the US.
Trump is a fucking liar about all things big and small period!
