Concerned about baseball season. But it is played outdoors. May have to play without fans.
|
|
Just hope it's gone by Football season.
|
|
I was getting all psyched up for the season to start.
Maybe it would be better for us all to get the virus and the survivors get on with their lives.
|
|
I'm with chucky, all the healthy adults get it and build up immunity. Then here immunity takes over. Some of us will die. I got news for you we're all going to die.

That sucks the Lakers first time in the playoffs and should of been one the favorites to win it all.
|
|
The season is only cancelled, not suspended for the rest of the year.

My bad...The season is only suspended, not cancelled for the rest of the year.
|
|
How unfortunate , the Lakers have what it takes to win it all in this year

the point she made is not so much the death rates but you pass it on to others and kill others unknowingly. Also you may survive because you're young but your lungs may be scarred for life and you may not be the same again.

Unfortunately, a large percentage of the people in the US (and the world in general) will eventually get infected. Projections range from 20% to 70% of the population will eventually get infected. Infections are growing exponentially.
What needs to happen is to slow down the rate of transmittal because hospitals are projected to be overwhelmed with serious Coronavirus cases within the next two weeks.
This virus gets transmitted very, very easily. The majority of those who are infected (80%) will feel minor effects from the virus, but they will still be very contagious. And 20% of those infected will suffer more serious symptoms and a percentage of them will need to be hospitalized (Coronavirus induced pneumonia requires respiratory treatment).
If we slow the rate of transmittal by not gathering in public places with many people who can transmit it to others quickly, by washing our hands, and by actively trying not to infect each other, we can flatten the rate of transmission to a manageable level allowing hospitals to effectively treat the sick. If hospitals are overwhelmed, the death rate is going to quickly increase, which we need to try to avoid or this will truly be a disaster.
The hospitals in Italy are currently overwhelmed and their death rate fluctuates between 5% to 7% (6.64%). We are two weeks away from being where Italy is now.

^ so projection is between 70 - 245 millions americans will catch it?

mildlyamusing19 is completely right. All the efforts by federal, state, and local authorities are all about flattening the curve of people with the virus as a function of time to not overwhelm hospital resources.
|
|
But the area under the curve will remain constant, meaning the same amount of people are still gonna get it, no matter what, at least theoretically. The hope is that this coronavirus, like others, is seasonal, and may lose steam in a couple of months.

@TNT1213 Your numbers are correct. Now time those numbers by 1%, 3%, and 5%. We don’t know what the death rate will be at this point because it depends on how seriously we take this. The more careless we are and the less we do, the higher the death rate will be. A pandemic like this happens once every 100 years.
I attached a link to the Joe Rogan Experience on YouTube. Very informative. I get my information from the CDC, WHO, Harvard Medical School, Johns Hopkins Medical School, etc, but the video boils it down nicely.

A true number of people that infected will never be known.
It's just a cold or flu for some and serious for others.

@Night-Rider
Yes, I have many doctors in my family, and one who does not specialize in infectious diseases thought (or hoped) that it may die down during the summer months as well, which happens with the typical flu. However, I read that other Covids (either SARS or MERS) actually flourished during the summer months. We don’t know what will happen with this Coronavirus.
The problem with COVID-19 is that it is highly contagious and the death rate isn’t very high (I know, it is counterintuitive). If the death rate was really high, like 60% with the other Coronaviruses, then it will essentially extinguish itself. Dead people can’t spread the disease.
However, COVID-19 is highly contagious and a lot of people won’t get very sick but will still spread it easily. So more people will be infected very quickly, the total number of people infected will explode, and even the small percentage of deaths will equate to an astronomical number since so many people will be infected.

Woahh its getting real!

Aww, what a sweet bromance between the two covid heads.
I think they should quarantine together.
These basketball players deserve it for being so woke.
They asked for it.
