But what are we supposed to do. No one wants to go bowling tonight. I want more Moscato. I've been watching YouTube videos all day long. I can go back to the beach house or maybe B.Hills but I'm bored over there too. Oh my goodness. The bachelor end of the yesterday and now what am I going to do...

This virus is one that attacks those who are immunocompromised and the elderly more than healthy individuals, might as well call it the grim reaper.....

98 percent of people under 50 will get over it with no problem, I am in the grey area at 62 but refuse to be a hermit. If I get the virus I will then choose to quarantine myself to avoid spreading it, and if it takes me down..... it was my time.

It is very difficult to try to avoid contact in a urban environment, as we are not self sufficient .... so we might as well just live our lives as best as we can.

This is not the only virus that has attacked mankind, we have survived worse.

If you want a gameplan, try to avoid getting it as much as you can. Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Avoid large groups of people and isolate yourself from the sick. And isolate yourself if you are sick.

The rate of death will quickly increase if too many people get sick too quickly because hospitals will get slammed and won't be able to treat all of the sick. So delaying exposure will save lives (and possibly yours).

There is no benefit to being fatalistic. If you take precautions, you'll likely not get it. Don't jump out of an airplane without a parachute and then say it must have been my time to die.

Similarly, don't take risks that can get you infected even if you'll likely have a minor response to the virus. We all have elderly family, friends, acquaintances, etc. I wouldn't want to play a role in someone's death, or have others play a role in mine or someone I know.

Yes, we will get through this, but let's get through it with the least amount of loss.

Good luck to everyone.

If only people were not denying the consequences of the virus(biological and economical), we would not be this deep into a mess.

Thanks mildly amusing for your informative blog comments during this crisis. I am sure I speak for others in saying we appreciate your objective knowledge and study of this virus. Keep the information coming as you are answering our questions as well.

Lol, ma19 is worse than the virus.

Read the data and just stop the bullshit "doom is upon us".

Most of you probably already have it and are asymptomatic.

Sure take precautions but don't be an idiot and load up on enough tp for 2 years.

I ain't letting some pansy virus run my life.

@GoBallsDeep

I find you to be a dangerous idiot who will likely get a bunch of people killed by your flippant attitude towards what is about to happen. Obviously, Asimov’s quote was directed to people like you.

I am happen to be good at math and I understand what exponential growth means. Clearly you don’t.

Unfortunately, tens of thousands of people are going to die soon, and hospitals will likely be overwhelmed within the next two to three weeks. It is unavoidable. It is going to get really, really bad soon. The Coronavirus is 10 to 15 times more deadly than the typical flu, and it is significantly more contagious.

Remember the last time we stopping all flights to a country, or to Europe, or the last time the NBA cancelled their season, or when most states prevented students from attending all schools and universities?

Yeah, it’s never happened before you dumb fuck.

The rate of death will be affected by how diligent we are now. We are already too late from preventing this. Now we can only mitigate the damage.

So believe me or not, I really don’t care. I don’t respect your opinion at all. But for the sake of the HX community, and everyone who is cursed to know you, stop making light of this situation.

^I am more optimistic than you. China is starting to have fewer new cases. I believe the same to be true in South Korea. I believe the next few weeks are critical. We are going to see more deaths and cases, no question. The number of cases will rise exponentially, no question. But can we advert disaster and eventually flatten the cases vs time curve? I think if we ALL keep our distance from one another, wash our hands, not touch our faces, and work or study at home if we can, this will go a long way towards our goal over the next month.

@Night-Roder

At least you’re taking this seriously, and I’m fine with you thinking that it won’t be that bad. But the US has shit the bed. Today’s announcement of a state of emergency should have happened two months ago when we were warned by China to take this seriously.

China and South Korea have taken extraordinary measures to control the spread of this virus, but you probably don’t know that many of those who “recovered” from it in China had had relapses and many of those have died. South Korea’s death rate is relatively low at .8%, but less than 5% of those infected have recovered. The death rate is artificially low until those who are infected either recover or they don’t (and die).

Most of the deaths here in the US will be caused by a lack of hospital beds and respirators. Treating the sick is difficult, but imagine being turned away because hospitals can’t care for the sick because they are at capacity.

This situation happens once every 100 years. The White House has tried to calm people down by minimizing the true risks to prevent a stock market free fall. But in doing so, they have caused people to not take this seriously which will make the situation worse.

I don’t enjoy telling people this, and quite frankly, when it gets really bad, I’ll stop posting unless I learn something new to share with people. But until then, please take this seriously and do what you can to stop the spread of the virus. Most of us will likely to get it eventually, but if huge number get it all at once, a lot of people are going to die.

Please watch the linked video.

It proves my point. Our lives will likely be upended/disrupted for the next 2 to 3 months before we start getting back to normal. It is faster than I thought. This is coming from a highly respected doctor.

I am done posting for now.

"I am happen to be good at math and I understand what exponential growth means"

Math maybe, English not so much.
You're not telling us anything that we can't already see in a million feeds, media outlets, etc. You bring nothing to the party that we don't already know.
Typical of people who use straight line assumptions, you often end up with spurious results because so much in the human world is not a function of straight line thinking.

Tell you what, in a couple of months, one of us will be able to say "I told you so". In the meantime, your new handle is "MostlyAnnoying2020".

My new handle is apparently "DumbFuck", lol.

I won’t be happy if I get to say “I told you so”. I hope you’ll be right. The future depends on what we do now.

I wrote this on another blog and I’ll repeat it again here:

Make sure the old and vulnerable (who have health risk, including the obese) are isolated from anyone who may have the virus.

I spoke with an emergency room doctor at a small family dinner yesterday (with strict no-touching rules), who told me the following:

1. If you’re sick with the flu, a cold, or anything else, call your doctor, hospital, or health insurance provider first to ask what to do. Do not go to the hospital without calling them first.

2. Hospitals are slammed with people worried about this.

3. They are turning away people who are sick with the flu (the normal flu or Covid-19, doesn’t matter) because there is nothing they can do for you if your situation is not serious. There is no treatment for the flu so you’ll get over it without medication if what you have (normal flu or Covid-19) is not serious.

4. If your case is serious, call the call your doctor, hospital, or health insurance provider first and ask them what to do. Do not just show up at a clinic or hospital where you can transmit what you have to others there.

Medical resources are already tight, so try to avoid getting sick as much as you can to prevent further taxing the healthcare system.

Most of this is just common sense.
